Mom guilt is the emotional wear and tear of navigating 1000 tiny daily tradeoffs between your childrens' wants and needs, health, happiness, fun vs discipline, orderly household vs max playtime, etc etc. It's hard, often painful, and this is horribly unkind on the husband's part.

Later, she wanted to know why I was mad about it. I had to remind her that in 20 years, we wouldn't look back and wish we'd gotten them in bed on time. But we'd give anything to have one more hour out with our kids at that age, at that place, doing those things. She bawled.

You can't win, everything's a choice, stay out late and then next day is much harder, the best-laid plans get overturned constantly, you feel responsible for all of it. It doesn't help when other adults, seemingly blind to all this, twist the knife!

Actually if you want your friends to source several days of overnight childcare and help pay for an AirBnB to go out of town to celebrate your grown ass adult birthday, YOU'RE not doing too much for your birthday, THEY are lol.
I would hate to be y'all's friends, simply not going and planning a dinner with them earlier would have sufficed, Tweeting about how you passively aggressively think I'm doing too much for my birthday & getting people to shit on my birthday plans bc you & ur husband suck is nuts

it's like elaborate destination weddings, bachelorettes, etc. These are things that only super wealthy people used to do because it was understood that hosting actually means paying for things! IMO it's tacky to "host" a party for which you expect your "guests" to pay!

Apart from allergies/illness and religious requirements, adults should not have ‘dietary restrictions.’ Anything else is a preference which is fine to have but not to expect other people to jump through hoops to accommodate.
Hive mind. Imagine you are having 3 friends over for dinner and between them they cannot eat: meat, fish, gluten, wheat, cheese or chocolate. What The Hell Do You COOK Help Me Please 🙏 😭

This discourse is revealing because many boomers seem not to understand what social security is. It is a tax, you didn't "pay into" social security any more than you "paid into" the war in Afghanistan! It's a tax that funds welfare for seniors, it's not a retirement account!
It’s funny how many boomers say things like “I planned on the younger generations paying for my retirement and I’ll destroy everything before I let you not pay for it.” Zero introspection. Just total entitlement.

and sidenote barring serious illness or disability if you are a working adult who is currently of retirement age and did not manage to save for your own retirement, given the market trends of the last 40 years, that is on you! not your grandkids!

I will probably never move back but my husband and I were both oneshotted by CA, you live there for a while and truly everywhere else feels just a little bit grey in comparison

So there’s this photographer, Katja Kemnitz, who takes pictures of toys before and after children have loved them. If you look like the one on the left, I’m happy for you, truly. But if I look like the one on the right, even after all my Sephora goop, I don’t regret a thing.
I'm 56 but look 15 years younger. The reason I look so good? I don't have children. Before the inevitable pile-on begins, there IS evidence that having kids turbocharges ageing: INGE VAN LOTRINGEN trib.al/WZ7yYs7

This article misrepresents available scientific evidence. Studies suggest that women who have 2-3 kids are healthiest in old age. In particular, having one or more sons is associated with lower dementia risk among women. nypost.com/2026/03/15/hea… womensbrainhealth.org/think-tank/thi…

Sometimes I see the price of a Disney vacation for a family and I think yeah, that's reasonable. I would find that amount in the budget, take out a loan for that amount, to avoid taking a family vacation to Disney. Oh wait, that's the price to GO to Disney. My husband was once again in the Orlando airport. He said no one was happy. He said everyone looks like they've already given up on life. You can't put a price on that. The price is less than 0.

devastated to report that the secret to being calm productive and cheerful as a mom to many little kids is waking 1-2 hours before everyone else

If my husband cheated on me and had unprotected sex while I was pregnant and had a whole additional child I can promise you he wouldn’t be praising my maturity online later because he’d be at the bottom of the Bering Sea with his bullshit and the arctic crab community.
