Tennessee just reported its first day with more than 2,000 COVID-19 infections since February, per CDC. Also, predictably, hospitalizations from the virus are now rising, doubling over the last 17 days. Please take this seriously. Get your boosters. The virus is not done with us.

Huge, huge news in the cat journalism world. Cat journalists will need a lot of coffee to get through the day and keep up with all the news.

Now there are 3 reports for vaccine effectiveness vs Omicron hospitalization, @UKHSA, @KPSCalResearch and today's @CDCMMWR. They are quite consistent for marked protection of the 3rd shot (booster). My summary table here

Booster eligibility can still be confusing So here's my guide to help you decide whether you should get a booster 6 months after your 2nd shot: Are you an adult? If yes, get a booster

I've been thinking about this stat a lot. Thinking about the 3 ppl I know who are currently on a vent & how some ppl don't know anyone who died or became gravely ill. The 1 in 500 dead isn't distributed randomly. That's how Covid is only real for some. amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/09/15/h…

a thought @EJohnWherry planted in my head that I'm hoping to use wisely going forward: let's stop drawing a dichotomy between "natural" (infection-induced) immunity and vaccine-induced immunity. both are natural—they leverage the immune system's natural defensive tendencies. 1/

Tennessee has hit another undesired milestone. This week, one third of all occupied hospital beds in the state are being used to care for #COVID19 patients. Our number one tool to prevent more cases and hospitalizations is for all eligible Tennesseans to get vaccinated.

Already this week, with two of five reporting days remaining, Hamilton County has recorded the highest ever weekly tally of cases among the 0-10 age group. @ecfite @LatriciaTnc9

This is a picture of hospitalizations for COVID in TN. This is quickly heading the wrong direction, in a state where just 40% are vaccinated.

A reminder about weather alerts: HamCo doesn’t have tornado sirens because of the terrain and proximity to Oak Ridge. To get alerts on a smartphone, enable emergency alerts under “notifications.” Otherwise, use a NOAA weather radio or follow the National Weather Service.

PSA: don’t spend time in high risk situations waiting on a vaccine like it’s Black Friday. Wear your mask, wash your hands, keep your distance for another day or so, and solve the problem. Send the vaccines to community offices—health depts and hospitals are already busy enough. – at Chattanooga, TN

UPDATE: Hundreds of seniors camped out overnight again, in the cold, crowded together, in Lee County last night, waiting for vaccinations. As of 6:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) all three vaccination sites in Lee County, Florida have hit capacity, according to DOH-Lee.
