Horrifying images from this very special site. Large, old #corals like this are irreplaceable, & these 100s-of-years-old animals could be lost in just weeks. A tragedy is unfolding here.
Let us mourn, & let our grief catalyze even more aggressive action, advocacy, & activism.
🌊Heartbreaking scenes from the #FloridaKeys: At Cheeca Rocks, renowned for its high live stony coral coverage, 99% of corals are bleached. Even the resilient 'massives' are struggling. Rising water temperatures are to blame. It's time for #ClimateAction. #SaveTheCorals
Shout out to @sniffspot They used my friend's art, initially without permission. When she pointed it out, they paid her for her art! Respect to a company that fixed an error. Apparently they are like an AirBnB, finding private rental space for your dogs to play. Check them out!

📣 DATA REQUEST! 📣
@CoralReefWatch needs in-water data and observations of #CoralBleaching or (hopefully!) no bleaching. If you are in the field, particularly in the #CoralTriangle, please submit your data to:

@IndpndntHomTub Your bio is a laugh. I've been trying to get door hinges for our bathtub door for 2 years. I've been hung up on at least 10 times when politely asking how to get a hinge. Someone in my house is going to get hurt using a step ladder to enter the tub.
At which point we'll sue for the negligence of your terrible company that won't even sell us replacement hinges. Meanwhile I've gotten 6 telemarketing calls just TODAY to buy a tub from you.
@IndpndntHomTub The hinge you won't replace, making the door unusable and our tub a danger.

Vortexes are simple devices commonly used in labs to mix small vials of liquid. But have you ever tried vortexing your finger? This watercolor is a tribute to the vortex - a simple but indispensable lab device

Fish poop feeds coral reefs! 💩 🐟
We examine the quality of fish food and poop for 51 fish species & reveal that fishes don't retain a lot of nutrients from their food, making fish poop a nutritious snack for other critters.

Biden should do a White House address tonight. Speak to the direct climate impacts millions are experiencing. Highlight what the Admin has done and then declare a #ClimateEmergency and pledge to take on the Big Oil companies fueling this crisis. Show some leadership.

I lived in NYC for 9 years never saw the sky look like this. The planet is sick, we need to act #ActOnClimate
Due to hundreds of uncontrolled wildfires across Canada, New York City looks like a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
If you want a prelude of what the world is going to look like if we do not address man-made climate change — this is it.

The AAMC predicts a physician shortage of up to 124,000 by 2034. Hard to prepare future MDs without organic chemistry classes. The @NewCollegeofFL Board is at best ignorant and at worst actively destroying the college, harming current students in the process.
What college board of trustees decides to fire *everyone at the school who teaches organic chemistry*? Those profs with grants who hire students to do research with them? The @NewCollegeofFL Board of Trustees, that’s who. Good luck, premeds, bio majors, and all.
Science colleagues, how inappropriate is it to out a genetics company that verbally promised add-on services at no-cost, only billed for the main service, and then failed to complete the add-ons (requred for the project) because they didn't bill you for them 2 years ago? (1/2)

ALT (a) Location of study sites at three New York State Parks. (b) Study site design. In each site, Vincetoxicum rossicum was managed through manual removal and herbicide application. In both managed and unmanaged areas, we established three 15 × 15 m plots: two with V. rossicum present and one without V. rossicum. We erected a deer exclosure around one plot with V. rossicum present and left the other two plots open

I also like how, almost across the board, administrators thought “just let them opt into adding another year to their tenure clock” is if that would change reality.
