Children in Chicago, Puerto Rico, and across the U.S. deserve early childhood education that respects their families and identities. Supporting English acquisition and preserving home languages are not mutually exclusive goals.
As Reps. García and Ramírez wrote in their letter:“Learning English should open doors for children. It should never require them to abandon the language and culture that shape who they are.”
Thank you to @RepChuyGarcia and @repdeliaramirez for standing up for our youngest learners and urging the administration to withdraw its “English only” instruction mandate for Head Start programs. Together we stand and continue to fight for our children, our families, and our future. 🙌

Here is an English language translation so the President, his aides and Congress understand our demands.
“In response to the unacceptable incident in which ICE agents stormed into a church in Río Piedras, even harassing parishioners during confession, the Power 4 Puerto Rico coalition calls on President Trump and the United States Congress to respect Puerto Rico’s Latin American character and to stop ICE raids against our Caribbean brothers and sisters, and people from other countries, in Puerto Rico.
“We also call on the island’s mayors, legislature, and governor to immediately implement sanctuary policies and protocols, as countless cities and states across the United States have done, to prohibit state and local officials from collaborating with ICE agents.
“Finally, we want to thank individuals and civil society institutions that have stood up to protect and defend our Dominican brothers and sisters and other immigrants who contribute to Puerto Rican society, in the face of this affront by Trump and the betrayal by Jenniffer González.”

Wealthy investors shouldn't get tax breaks while Puerto Rican families get pushed out of their homes.
I'm standing with the residents of Hacienda Grande community in Loíza against displacement, environmental destruction, and a housing system that puts profits over people.
Part 2: The fight for Loíza continues. For decades, the “Villa Vaca” Hacienda Grande community in Puerto Rico has been home to generations of families, grandparents, parents, and children building their lives side by side. About five years ago, they were told their future was secure: sign the contracts, pay $1 in rent, and you’ll never have to leave.
Now, that promise is unraveling. An Illinois Act 22 developer is putting this community at risk of displacement, threatening to uproot elders and young families who have nowhere else to go. What was supposed to protect them may now cost them everything.
This isn’t just about land. It’s about trust, history, and the right to stay in the place they’ve always called home. Listen to their stories. Share them. Stand with Loíza. ✊🏽🇵🇷 #PuertoRicoIsNotForSale #CloseAct22TaxLoophole #LoizaPuertoRico
