the great lie online centrists have managed to whip themselves up about is that trans people are demanding maximal policy changes and this is going to kill democrats everywhere instead of the far bleaker reality, that we are begging them to hold the line on what already exists

turek is not every democrat, which it is WHY it is so important to form an impassable wall against his idea to restrict trans healthcare so that he does not BECOME every democrat. there’s room to debate how feasible the pace of progress can be. there isn’t to go backwards.

You have to vote for the guy who’s gonna make everyone’s lives better otherwise a transphobe might get into office
He may very well be the deciding vote on legislation that makes everyone's lives better. We can either have him win and pressure the crap out of him to not be anti-trans, or help his opponent get elected who voted against the Equality Act and for the Defense of marriage Act.

Stop understating this. A trans Hyde Amendment is less like denouncing gay marriage in 2006 and more like denouncing antiretroviral therapy for HIV patients in 2006.
If this was 2006 Josh Turek would be taking about defending traditional marriage. If this was 1956 Josh Turek would be talking about keeping white and black kids to their own spaces. He would be just as spineless in any era, it’s how he is. Nobody’s free until everybody’s free

I've generally held to "vote blue no matter who," but I've concluded Turek cannot win. His stances are completely unacceptable, especially on healthcare. If he wins, other Democrats will follow suit because they'll think this nonsense is a secret sauce.

Was it really that hard to say something like this @turek4iowa
#KansasSenate Adam Hamilton on transgender rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself.” “I’m gonna love the trans person as well as the straight person, male or female. We have to do better than picking on small groups. What’s happened is we’ve turned a group of people into a campaign issue because it polls well.”

This is the way: perform compassion, mess up some of the terminology. “We should treat transgender people the same way we treat straight people.” That’s how you sound like a regular person, not “who? me? Pro-trans! No! Never! Fuck em! We hates them!”

These people are not interested in strategically persuading the public to support trans people more than they do, they want to do endless snarky dunks on their closest major-party allies for a relative handful of likes on X.com , just absolute loser behavior
"The first things trans activists need to know is that transphobia is widespread" wow Nick, any more groundbreaking observations to share today?

You can debate strategy until the sun comes up, but my read is that Josh Turek is just a genuine transphobe. The ad goes much farther than what would be necessary if he were acting only on strategy.

imagine if a blue state republican had an ad saying ‘I’m the gay rights candidate. that’s me, the lgbt rights candidate. I PROMISE to vote for gay marriage & trans rights’. would people who care strongly about that issue then vote for the republican? that’s how stupid this looks
#IowaSenate AdImpact: Josh Turek releases new ad in which he opposes trans women competing in women’s sports “No Iowan should face discrimination. As a Paralympian, I also know it's important to have rules.” “It's why I oppose males competing in female sports ... I'm against taxpayers paying for sex changes, too.”

it's baffling to me that even the most highly engaged people online never actually question or analyze why certain things appear on their feed you're on a website owned by the Republican Party's single largest donor, consider what that implies
Replying to @CameronCorduroy
I wonder why Elon's app is suddenly full of viral posts about how I'm A Lifelong Democrat But The Transgenders Have Gone Too Far right before the midterms. It is a mystery. No possible explanation besides overwhelming organic backlash to that one video.

You can look through this person's Twitter and find lots of transphobia, of course. I doubt this person is even a Democrat in reality. You see a lot of this nonsense, people who are transphobes "advising" the trans community on what is best for them.
Maybe I'll get a lot of hate for this, but I feel like the support Dems have for the trans community has not been appreciated. I don't know if it's the algorithms, the radicalization, or the dumbing down of history, but it's like the trans community is deliberately misinforming themselves as to what the Dems platform is, and what Biden did for the trans community. Look, maybe it's not my place to tell a community how to feel about their rights, but I still do not get it. What trans civil rights, precisely, do the Dems not defend? What part of the GOP, not the Dems, whipping up a fear mongering culture war about trans people do they not understand?

We're gonna get days of discourse abt how dems need to abandon trans ppl cause we can never be satiated because a constituent asked about their own interests.
Trans voter to @AOC: Trans people in America feel like they've been abandoned by the Democratic Party, that we are a losing issue, that it's not worth defending us. What do you say to that? AOC:

As one of the candidates featured in these polls - the infamous one in late June that showed me plummeting into single digits (which was at odds with our internals) - here's the impact of this "experiment" - Donations dried up - Volunteers were devastated and pleading for guidance on what to do - Reporters hounded me with calls to drop out Sure, a point was proven. Polling is broken. But tens of thousands of people poured their hearts, time, energy, hard-earned money into something they believed in - for a year-and-a-half, and it was treated like a game. Our volunteers gave their all. And then some. I felt like I had let so many of them down. To be extremely clear, Michigan Democrats are locked in to beat Mike Rogers. We WILL send @AbdulElSayed to the US Senate. But between crap like this, endless fundraising texts that drive supporters away with spammy fake deadlines and trash "match" claims, scam PACs run rampant for firms to grift without actually supporting candidates, undisclosed content creators pushing content out either misrepresenting themselves as residents of states they don't live in or hiding whether they were paid and by who so they could make a buck, and the tidal wave of dark money ads -- I hope Democrats are ready to blow up the system with campaign finance and transparency reforms. Trust is already at an all-time low. We don't get out of this mess without rebuilding trust. And media - who loves to ride the drama of a pollercoaster - needs to take a hard look at what's legitimate and what's not. If this teaches us anything - DON'T GET COMPLACENT AND DON'T TRUST THE POLLS. LOCK IN. SIGN UP FOR A CANVASSING SHIFT. LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS.

I just cast my ballot for James Talarico. As a second-generation Indian American, I am thoroughly disgusted by the xenophobia, racial resentment, and increasingly brazen attacks on my identity. My family has contributed to the American story through hard work, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in the opportunities this nation promises. I am every bit as American as anyone else, and I will not tolerate being treated as a perpetual foreigner in the country I call home. I implore every eligible Texan to get out and vote. This election is about the kind of state and country we are prepared to defend—and the principles we refuse to surrender. @TeamTalaricoHQ @texasdemocrats

it's really crazy how big name Republicans have been not-so-subtly threatening assassinations against Democrats with this wink and nudge routine about the 2nd Amendment for literally entire life and it's treated as normal Trump said the same thing on the campaign trail in 2016
If @ElissaSlotkin deploys these fascist tactics, like illegal arrests and political persecutions to intimidate young Americans with opposing political views, she will learn why we have the Second Amendment. Fuck her and her CIA tactics.

It's sometimes gauche to compare transphobia to anti black racism in the American South but the justifications are remarkably similar
all you wanted was "your mother being safe"... from her herself being insulting and rude??
