Marine mammals are the most insane group of animals. Like what do you mean you sleep in a place where have to wake up every few minutes to go find some air to breathe.

Great context for why the national conversation was steered towards shoplifting / stealing food by big corporations as they raised their prices, said that the hikes were temporary, and then kept raising them. And then tried (some succeeded) to use dynamic pricing for food.
this graph from the AP stunned me into silence

A juvenile Green Heron checks out a Great Blue Heron nest. I wonder if he/she was impressed with the nest size and skyline view?

Wild how every one of these tweets is just an open acknowledgment of a capital strike and committing to repeatedly breaking tenant law. “Nice rent freeze you got, now we will petulantly punish you by not maintaining your building” ok cool you should be stripped of all your wealth
Congrats to the 2M rent stabilized apt dwellers, you win a rent freeze. Since your landlords’ expenses weren’t frozen, don’t be surprised if the state of your building deteriorates. For market rate renters, this won’t help you. In fact, policies like this scare housing providers and developers. Fewer supply means higher rents in the future. And this Mamdani video is obnoxious — reminiscent of the one in which he called out Ken Griffin. And that didn’t work out well for NY.

screwworm prevention is one of those markers of state capacity that gives you confidence adults are in the room somewhere one by one, those markers fall
I can see the DOGE tweet: "We canceled a contract for Panamanian screwworms, saving $165 million dollars!!!" [aphis.usda.gov/news/agency-a…] Meanwhile: "The slightest oversight could undo all the work that came before."

One of the Great Blue Heron nests has four nestlings. These are very busy Great Blue Heron parents to be raising so many young ones, most nests have two or three.

Saying of your literal son “He’s a person I’ve known for a long time” is legendary I’m afraid
Reporter: Are you attending your son’s wedding? Trump: He’d like me to go. I’m going to try. I said, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things. He’s a person I’ve known for a long time.

Obviously its important to get a pap smear, but the amount of people who shut down any stories of women experiencing pain during smear tests and accuse them of exagerrating is a blatant example of medical misogyny.

Feel like this understates her actual point
Fun Fact: The author did a blog post following the series's VERY dark and depressing ending after a lot of readers were traumatized by the kid characters all either dying or having PTSD and in response, this based lady said: "Lol, War is war keep crying"

Wow it’s almost like there was a deeply engaged protest movement by college students 2yrs ago that was the largest in 50yrs and the publication you work for—along with every other major outlet—smeared them as antisemites, then they were all systematically kicked out of school.
A lot of the problems in the world right now can be explained by this video. For one thing, it’s a big reason why the US government is so unaccountable to public opinion. These are *college students.* A significant amount of the country is totally checked out and comfortable enough not to think it matters.

A Sandhill Crane with feathers freshly painted with iron-rich mud, which will give the feathers a rusty tint. It's believed this is done to help the crane blend into the environment while sitting on a nest.
