NEW: Apple is cutting employee AI spending budgets even as it pushes workers to use the technology more. Engineers have seen daily limits cut from $300 to $200, with further reductions to $100 planned. Other teams could see limits fall to $25. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

My newest book 'Fine Tuning AI' just came through the mail from O'Reilly I think this is perhaps the most important book I've ever written. I strongly believe the best future career for many software developers will be in Fine Tuning AI for domain-specific tasks. With this book, I try to simplify it, primarily using Google's Gemma models. You can find it on Amazon here: link.amazon/B02x2ZVPD Or O'Reilly Safari here: oreilly.com/library/view/fin… Thank you so much for your support!

The uncomfortable truth: if your value is mainly turning tickets into working code, AI already eats most of that. Syntax and frameworks are table stakes. Focus on what AI still fails at: System design for messy distributed systems Data modeling judgment under real load Security instincts that catch AI flaws Treating LLMs as flaky, costly dependencies (timeouts, evals, cost control, fallbacks) Owning production outcomes and business tradeoffs Become the architect and verifier, not the typist.

We just released new UK research revealing that training and governance have failed to keep pace with AI-assisted work, leaving employees exposed to costly mistakes. AI has quietly become the first place most UK workers turn for answers: bit.ly/4zRIgLt

🎥 idanbo

We’re already late and against the grain being behind the embargo reviews that’s about to drop but what happened wanting the device for the excitement of tech? Everything is view and incentive based these days and that’s what’s wrong with tech YouTube. Being full-time and the need to get the device early, I get it but maybe just not say it out loud and keep it to yourself. Not the best look imo when creators come out and keep saying this.
I'm not buying the iPhone Duo if I can't get it on Day 1 I'm not buying it for personal use. I'm buying it to review, test it, and compare it with Samsung and Xiaomi Fold. Getting the device on Day 1 is crucial because that's when the views make it worth the investment. Even then, we often struggle to recover the full cost of the device. Spending $3,000 on a phone only to receive it a month later makes absolutely no business sense. By then, the hype is gone, the views are down, and the investment simply isn't worth it.

Prompt of the day: /writing-for-agents my AGENTS.md is a hot mess, propose a series of restructurings that: - Remove no-ops - Use progressive disclosure - Move instructions to CODING_STANDARDS.md Apply your work over three subagents, each more radical than the last. Create a single PR. AGENTS.md is the most common source of token inefficiency. This prompt kills it dead.

Since my whole timeline is currently “AI is going to kill us,” I say we drink to new iPhones and fun keynotes.
Today is the day! Apple’s big iPhone event. I’ve always wanted to turn one of these into a drinking game. So we did. Presenting... the New Things Apple Event Drinking Game.* Subscribe to our newsletter to get the board: thenewthings.com/subscribe *Water and coffee are strongly encouraged. Tim Curry was one of the greats. He was my Pennywise. Terrifying as the Lord of Darkness in Legend. Hilarious as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island. Every time he was on screen in Clue, he was electric. I’m not okay with this. Rest well, Tim.

End of an era for me. I just moved AudioPen.ai's web app out of Bubble, to a version i custom built with Claude. No Code gave me wings back in 2023, but it cannot compete with Claude in 2026 imo. Forever grateful to @bubble though. It changed my life.

Ann Widdecombe schools a roomful of woke students on the importance of free speech. "Only two sorts of people oppose free speech... snowflakes and totalitarians." "Nobody has the right to live their lives being protected from offence, or from insult, or from hurt feelings." "It is an occupational hazard of living in society. And if you really can't take it, become a hermit." "No matter how much we may disagree with somebody, we should defend to the hilt their right to say it." "You succeed by defeating your opponent, not by wishing him away. You get nowhere by trying not to hear what is being said." "You may feel virtuous today in what you will not hear, but tomorrow somebody may feel virtuous in not hearing what you have to say." "Free speech is for all, not for the privileged few."
