I don’t understand the weird bloodlust or desire for revenge people have around this. The time to euthanize the tiger was before it could harm the man. What does killing it now accomplish? The tiger didn’t do anything wrong. It was in its enclosure minding its own business when someone broke into it. The tiger reacted the way nature wired it to. It’s sad, but you don’t make this tragedy better with more death.
So wild beasts get to maul humans to death and we just accept it now A literal evil creature with a taste for human blood lives among us because liberals think killing it would be “bad for the environment” or something
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
A man voluntarily entered the tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park before the attack. The park confirmed the captive tiger will not be euthanised per standard procedures for human intrusion, with no connection to politics or the environment. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/o… express.co.uk/news/uk/225632… yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/uk-news/y…

Somebody near me is cooking something that smells really good, and I refuse to entertain the idea that it could possibly be the McDonald's across the street...

On an unrelated note, what’s the best way to remove a name patch from, say, a #cbj outdoor game jersey?
Zach Werenski has officially became the most hated former/current player in Columbus Blue Jackets history. Who knew this guy had this bad of an attitude problem. Makes sense why he was never named captain. Columbus is in for a long offseason. #CBJ

Today I'm deleting @duolingo after a 1,652-day streak. More than 4½ years. Hundreds of hours. And I still can't speak French. I don't feel like I failed. I feel like I was sold the wrong product. Duolingo is brilliant at getting you to come back tomorrow. Streaks. XP. Leagues. Hearts. It's a masterclass in gamification. What it doesn't seem nearly as good at is teaching people to actually speak a language. Too often, it threw vocabulary or grammar at me that I swear had never been explained, then expected me to figure it out through repetition. And when asked to explain why my answers are wrong, I'm told "you said X, but it should be Y," but never told why it should be Y. After 1,652 straight days, I should be able to have a conversation in French. Instead, I mostly learned how to keep a streak alive. I'm not giving up on French. I'm giving up on a game that, in my experience, was better at keeping me engaged than helping me reach my goal. If you've actually become conversational in another language, what worked for you?

I would be fine with airlines asking the age of all passengers (if they don’t already) and forcing parents to pay to select seats if anyone in the group is younger than (whatever number works) years of age.
Replying to @MattFinkes @Delta
As a society we should be seating kids under age 12 next to their parents automatically at no charge on planes.

The real lesson from the TanStack incident isn’t just “use lockfiles.” It’s: why the hell does your frontend build process even HAVE access to production secrets? Public/publishable keys in the client are normal. Secret keys belong on the API/server side.

I only see one issue; why are you rolling your own rate limiting? All the major languages and frameworks have libraries that do this, and every cloud provider I’ve used has some kind of mechanism for this as well.
A junior dev built a rate limiter to block users making too many API requests: if (requestCount > 100) { return 200, { "error": "rate limit exceeded" } } It's deployed. It works. What are the two flaws in this implementation and how would you fix both?

(sigh) 1) Thou shall not give AI access to your production environments. 2) Thou shall not allow AI to make any changes that can’t be isolated to a branch and/or are not reviewed by a person before executing. 3) Thou shall store database backups in a manner where they are secure, isolated, and cannot be deleted or mishandled, either by humans or AI

Is it weird that the thought of going on a flight where people behave themselves and act like adults excites me on an almost sexual level?
United Airlines has updated its contract of carriage to stipulate that "passengers who fail to use headphones while listening to audio or video content" can be refused travel or removed from the aircraft. cnn.it/4lF6mmQ
