Seed oils appear to cause obesity due to their high content of a specific type of fat called linoleic acid, a type of omega-6 polyunsaturated fat (PUFA). Here are some of the randomized controlled trials in humans that link seed oils & linoleic acid to disease and weight gain 👇

Big news: @ErewhonMarket is now using Organic Fera fruit oil for frying across all 15 locations. If you're a customer, you can scan a code at the cafe counter and see the Regenerative Organic Certified® farms where the fruit is grown. The Wynn Las Vegas is no longer frying with seed oils. A huge move by the world’s largest 5-star resort. All 20+ restaurants at Wynn and Encore are now frying exclusively with Organic Fera fruit oil. This is no small feat. Huge kudos to @WynnLasVegas for making this change.

Nutrition can be as personal, tribal, and polarized as politics. And fats are at the center of nutrition debates. So it's unsurprising that seed oils are such a hot topic, like trans fats once were. But one thing we should all agree on: SEED OILS SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR FRYING.

Problem is, frying is the #1 application for seed oils in the U.S., and much of the world, which is why this is such an important topic. I spoke about this at Expo West last month. Full video here: youtube.com/watch?v=tk-tONHx…

Today, 90%+ of healthcare spend (all $4.5T of it) goes towards treating chronic conditions after someone is sick. Less than 3% of that spend goes towards prevention. @Truemed exists to get more people investing in True Medicine. Exercise, food, supplements, movement, sleep, toxin removal… lifestyle interventions that help people treat and prevent disease, not just treat the symptoms of underlying sickness. We’re building tools that allow qualified individuals to unlock the $160B in tax-free HSA/FSA funds, and use them on these root-cause interventions. Since launching just 2.5 years ago, we’ve helped almost a million individuals pay for these interventions, and we’re just getting started. If we want to fix healthcare in America, we fundamentally have to help Americans get healthier. I’m extremely proud to announce our $34M Series A led by a16z, and am excited to continue our work to end the chronic disease crisis.

MAKING THE PO' BOY GREAT AGAIN: Louisiana just became the first state to ENFORCE honesty about industrial seed oils at restaurants Starting Jan 1 2028, every restaurant, food truck & café that cooks with: Canola, soy, corn, sunflower, safflower, cottonseed, grapeseed or rice-bran oil Must print one clear line on every menu, drive-thru board, wall sign, website, app: “Some menu items may contain or be prepared using seed oils.” Based on our data, this is essentially every restaurant in the state, but it's a step in the right direction and great work by the MAHA coalition & Protect LA Values 🫡

Not only is the U.S. enjoying fewer years of healthy life compared to other developed countries, we are alarmingly not improving, year after year. In other words, while most countries are doing well and getting even better, the U.S. is doing badly and getting even worse.

Linoleic acid is the most abundant polyunsaturated fatty acid in the Western-style diet and has been implicated in promoting inflammation and cancer. In Science, researchers report a mechanism by which linoleic acid can activate the mTORC1 protein kinase, which coordinates growth and nutrient signals. Seed oil fatty acid (linoleic) "promotes the growth of an aggressive type of breast cancer." A pre-clinical study by Weill Cornell Medicine Specifically, linoleic "enhances the growth of the hard-to-treat “triple negative” breast cancer subtype." Remember, in large, NIH-funded clinical trials where saturated fats were replaced with seed oils, subjects on seed oils consistently died at higher rates from cancer.
