The cost floor of a product is set by physics But the price of a product is set by psychology of the buyer All of economics is downstream of these two facts.

After 3 long weeks, finally an update on lipstick-for-book Amazon delivery - This product got finally exchanged today. The delivery person handed over a brown paper package which clearly contained a book. I opened the package and it indeed had the right book. I then handed him this lipstick box I received earlier. He asked for a cutter to open the box and check its content. I handed him one. When he opened the box, we both were in for a big surprise. The lipstick box contained the very book I ordered. Now, both of us were holding the exact same book. He advised, "You should have opened the box earlier. We accept returns even if the box is open." I said, "Why would I open a lipstick box that I didn't even order?" We shared a good laugh on the mix-up.
Yesterday, instead of the book I ordered, Amazon delivered this beauty product, which had my order's label. I hope, the lady who ordered this product is enjoying our copy of Entertaining Mathematical Puzzles.

Michael Phelps went six years without missing a day of training. 365 days a year. Christmas morning, New Year's, Thanksgiving. People assume I made him do that. It was the other way around. 🧵

Shallow research won't survive scrutiny by SOTA tokens. A lot of tokens will be burnt, and a few reputations with them.

Exactly. Another explanation is that the improved/beautified environment creates sort of an opposite broken window effect = people feel less comfortable committing crime in an area that feels cared for and utilized

A win for Ruchir Sharma’s framework - Society benefits more when people get rich by building sunrise industries than by extracting rents or riding commodity booms.
Where China’s top 100 richest people got their wealth has shifted dramatically away from real estate to tech.

What would these sports/activity be in Indian context?
Since 2019, tennis is up 72% among kids 6–12. Golf is up 55%. Parents finally figured out which sports lead to success and can be played for life.

I'm puzzled: people once hated/distrusted merchants, but loved/respected aristocrats. Today they hate big business leaders, but trust people to assigned high govt administrative positions. I can see respecting priests, warriors, and performers, but why inherited fancy dressers?

Unfortunately, submitting a paper to a journal is still a grind. Agents help, but the journal-agents now check every fiddly detail. Does the title page list keywords? Do they match the ones you typed into the portal? When checking gets cheap, u get more checking. AI panopticon.

ministry of oil didn't have a lot to cause this 2001->2024 explosion of oil compute. probably en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamnag…

Please read Hayek.
India needs a ministry of compute. Like ministry of oil, we need laser-focus from the top to build compute necessary for participating in the future economy. Otherwise, we will repeat in a decade what we’re doing now: spending expensive forex for importing what we don’t have.

As an Indian, I've derived far greater monetary benefit from Google's cost-free services (such as search) than Google has derived from me by serving me targetted ads. Google users in richer countries, in effect, subsidize my use of Google technologies.

European Commission sounds the alarm (now !!!) about the number of oil refineries closing in the region over the last 20 years. "We need to counter this trend," says EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen. "This crisis is a wake-up call." Quite.
