You've just rented a PS2 from Video Ezy for 24 hours. You and your sibling(s) get to do this once a year. It’s Friday night and you’ve got Pizza Hut on the way. Your parents don't care if you stay up all night long. You are 11 years old. The year is 2005.

Can I get an amen and yes, as someone who was a long time fan of The Economist, your product these days is junk
JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon mocks The Economist during a tense exchange after being told he’s sounding like Trump: “I’m not Trumpian. I’m factual.” 🇺🇸
Interviewer: “You’re sounding Trumpy.”
Jamie Dimon: “I’m not Trumpian. I’m factual. I don’t agree with this binary shit that goes on all the time.
I think The Economist is the absolute best, most admirable thing in the world, and you should continue that.”
Dimon delivers the last line with apparent sarcasm, poking fun at the publication while pushing back against the idea that agreeing with Trump on certain issues makes him a Trump supporter.

the thing about australians and kiwis living abroad is that they voluntarily left two of the most beautiful, livable places on earth. you are not dealing with normal levels of ambition.

Another angle to this is that dogs effectively stumbled onto what is for them the equivalent of artificial superintelligence 20,000 years ago. The Singularity already happened for dogs. They live in a world they cannot understand, surrounded by miraculous wonders they take entirely for granted, their every need seen to by entities whose thoughts they cannot begin to fathom.
The result is that there are about a billion dogs on the planet now. Most of them are pretty happy. Almost none of them need to work. It worked out pretty well for them.

You're not actually autistic,
but instead a narcissistic neurotic with an inability to adjust to sudden minor changes because it undermines your illusion of control?
this chart should be the death knell for the 2010s tech left whose theology compelled them to argue that Uber was some sort of labor law arbitrage that created no productivity benefits. the truth is that it created a far larger market than taxis ever had. the industrialists win

Your daily goal should be “how relaxed can I be while doing everything that needs to be done?”
Quality of life will improve 10x
Entrepreneurs burn out faster than employees because they don't have somebody telling them when to be off vs on.
A construction worker putting in 60 hour weeks who drinks beer all weekend has less burnout risk than a 27 year old running an agency because the construction worker knows that he can be totally offline when he gets home.
Being "always on" gives you zero time for your stamina bar to fully recover. The work is menial enough that you don't notice you're totally depleting yourself until your nervous system shuts down.
You effectively have two options here:
- Learn how to shut your brain off (easier said than done)
- Change your approach to work
The best approach is a mix of the two.
You can chad ram your way through work with stimulants for maybe 5 years before it really catches up to you. Effective in the beginning but unsustainable.
You need to learn to approach your work in a parasympathetic state. Most of us spend 90% of our time in the sympathetic state when we're really only meant to rely on that fight or flight maybe 10% of the time.
You think you're getting "in the zone" but you're really just cortisol-maxxing and burning through all of your body's most important resources.
Save the chad ramming for when it really counts. Your day to day goal should be "how relaxed can I be while doing what needs to get done?"
Don't waste your life's potential getting burnt out before 30.

The idea that severely mentally ill people are going to be free to live in our world if we sprinkle “services” on them is what leads to this. It puts first responders and civilians in harm’s way so we don’t have to pay for or deal with the unpleasantries of institutionalization.
The woman who murdered the victim was "known" to police as having mental health issues. The issue then, once again, is the failure of mental health treatment and "services." We're doing it wrong. And now two women are dead, one quite undeservedly. nypost.com/2026/09/01/us-new…
