More than 300 military and police officers from Ireland are #ServingForPeace in four @UNPeacekeeping missions around the world — leaving their families behind to protect the most vulnerable. We thank these brave women and men for their service and sacrifice. un.org/en/peaceandsecurity/s

Israeli military continues occupying territory in southern #Lebanon while carrying out near daily airstrikes, artillery fire & home demolitions despite a ceasefire. But there’s another threat facing communities: unexploded munitions near homes &agricultural land @MAGsaveslives

Explosive ordnance contamination in Gaza is already overwhelming and continues to grow with Israel’s sustained bombardment of the strip even after the announcement of a ceasefire. Without addressing the contamination, Palestinians’ safe, informed, voluntary, and dignified return to the areas from which they were displaced becomes impossible. Israel’s operation in Hebron has forced over 2,000 Palestinians from their homes. Collective punishment is a grave violation of international law, and threats to empty and erase entire neighbourhoods raise serious concerns about ethnic cleansing. ohchr.org/en/press-releases/

Can anybody coherently explain how removing the triple lock & a possible EU mission in Lebanon has been transformed by certain people into: 1: Interfering in a Lebanese civil war? & 2: Fighting with/for Isreal against Lebanese troops? Sheer lunacy on all counts

There’s a lot of alarmism about this planned Lebanon mission. I have not yet formed a view about it, but here is a summary of the military side of the mission which is still at the planning stage. “The military pillar will provide advisory support and training to strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces, for border security andmaritime security, including in land border surveillance and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, counter-smuggling and operational coordination.” That doesn’t sound too alarming but I’ll reserve judgement.
The decision to participate or not in any overseas military should depend on the mission’s mandate & purpose. Does it reflect our values & will it advance our interests? The risks involved need also to be weighed up. Do we have the capacity to contribute effectively? Any mission should be examined intensively before any decision is taken. We should not be afraid to say ‘no this doesn’t suit us.’

Israel has committed the crime against humanity of "extermination" in the West Bank, while continuing to commit "genocide" against Palestinians in Gaza, United Nations-mandated investigators have said rte.ie/news/middle-east/2026

Seeing some (more than normal) toxic and depraved ranting recently on EU mission to Leb. - Lebanese authorities requested this - securing port of Beirut a priority - military part is to train, advise, and support LAF and build capability coe-civ.eu/the-coe/stay-info

Regarding the EU Mission in Lebanon - a mission invited and supported by the Lebanese Gov itself, it is neither Peacekeeping nor peace enforcement. Seems to be a lot of disinfo about. Read the facts: EU establishes new Lebanon support mission | Reuters share.google/RkKkhc0MKfBvBAZ

Changes to the Triple Lock mechanism will ensure Ireland retains control over where our peacekeeping troops are deployed. This is about our decision-making process, not a debate about neutrality.

In liberalised market, perception is that it would be better to use An Post for deliveries as it doesn't use Eircode- the random code that An Post helped to specify. During design An Post admitted those who wanted to use it would need extra IT solutions to make it work for them.
Replying to @Kinosay
To be fair to DPD, I gave the seller my address and Eircode over the phone and she got 1 digit of the Eircode wrong. They delivered the parcel to me at a weirdly mashed-up address. Apparently An Post doesn’t use the Eircode, only the address, so they may be the safer option.

My contribution on the Triple Lock Debate in the Dáil yesterday evening. My firm belief is that Ireland should decide where Irish Peacekeepers are deployed. This Debate is not a Debate on neutrality, it’s a Debate on sovereignty. #triplelock #Sovereignty

This is a good explanation of the triple lock. I think it should go as it’s ridiculous to have our sovereign decisions second guessed by China, Russia, USA. It is bizarre to believe that any Irish government would lightly send Irish troops on overseas missions. All governments are averse to risking the lives of their military. irishtimes.com/politics/2026
