More than 300 military and police officers from Ireland are #ServingForPeace in four @UNPeacekeeping missions around the world â leaving their families behind to protect the most vulnerable.
We thank these brave women and men for their service and sacrifice.

16 EU Countries have personnel currently serving in UNIFIL, one of which Ireland directly shares duties with on a daily basis.

John is waiting to see if the published details of the EU mission are true but he has absolute certainty of details he has seen published nowhere!

Ireland is in Lebanon right now, there is no civil war in the country that has power sharing like NI, Ireland's policy on Israeli actions in Lebanon have been conspicuously stated, the EU mission details are published... but sure lets ignore what's in front of our eyes.

Israeli military continues occupying territory in southern #Lebanon while carrying out near daily airstrikes, artillery fire & home demolitions despite a ceasefire. But thereâs another threat facing communities: unexploded munitions near homes &agricultural land @MAGsaveslives

So you will agree therefore in funding all necessary military resources to defend that neutrality & related obligations?

Explosive ordnance contamination in Gaza is already overwhelming and continues to grow with Israelâs sustained bombardment of the strip even after the announcement of a ceasefire.
Without addressing the contamination, Palestiniansâ safe, informed, voluntary, and dignified return to the areas from which they were displaced becomes impossible.

Israelâs operation in Hebron has forced over 2,000 Palestinians from their homes. Collective punishment is a grave violation of international law, and threats to empty and erase entire neighbourhoods raise serious concerns about ethnic cleansing.

Can anybody coherently explain how removing the triple lock & a possible EU mission in Lebanon has been transformed by certain people into:
1: Interfering in a Lebanese civil war?
&
2: Fighting with/for Isreal against Lebanese troops?
Sheer lunacy on all counts

Thereâs a lot of alarmism about this planned Lebanon mission. I have not yet formed a view about it, but here is a summary of the military side of the mission which is still at the planning stage.
âThe military pillar will provide advisory support and training to strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces, for border security andmaritime security, including in land border surveillance and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, counter-smuggling and operational coordination.â
That doesnât sound too alarming but Iâll reserve judgement.
The decision to participate or not
in any overseas military should depend on the missionâs mandate & purpose. Does it reflect our values & will it advance our interests? The risks involved need also to be weighed up. Do we have the capacity to contribute effectively? Any mission should be examined intensively before any decision is taken. We should not be afraid to say âno this doesnât suit us.â
Israel has committed the crime against humanity of "extermination" in the West Bank, while continuing to commit "genocide" against Palestinians in Gaza, United Nations-mandated investigators have said
