The fact that financial markets are reacting poorly to Lula’s victory is a sure sign that markets are not some amorphous intelligence but simply a bunch of right wing traders who follow the herd. We forget that at our peril.

22 kilobytes.
I often think about the technical limitations that game designers had to work with in the 80s - both in terms of software and hardware. To me, the game that stands at the very top is Elite (1984).
Elite is smaller in data size than many modern text files or desktop icons, yet it lets you freely explore a multi-galaxy-spanning universe that felt gigantic and virtually limitless.
Think about this for a second: The core game code on the BBC Micro version has roughly 22 KB of memory. The C64 version from 1985, which I played as a kid, isn't much bigger.
Now think about what Braben and Bell turned those few kilobytes into: a massive universe with eight galaxies, each containing 256 star systems (for a total of 2,048 planets per system). Each system featured unique details: government type, economy, technology level, population, commodity prices, and even descriptive text.
Oh, and by the way, the game also rendered 3D wireframe ships, stations, and planets in real time on a 2 MHz 6502 processor.
This is no slight on today’s game designers. They work with what they have, and that's okay. But when I think about the worlds that some old school programmers created with the tools they were given, it sometimes breaks my brain trying to to even remotely understand how they did it.
Not megabytes, not gigabytes... kilobytes!

The national security advisor that has overseen one failed war of choice and the kidnapping/indefinite detention of legal US residents is now a coyote for foreign autocrats. Quite the resume.
As I reported hours ago, Flávio Bolsonaro has arrived safely in United States.
The mastermind behind this operation is U.S. Secretary of State @SecRubio .
From the United States, free and safe, Flávio will lead the opposition against Lula.
Call me paranoid, but the deeper you go into this thread, the more it looks like some dodgy push-polling to workshop FUD campaigns to stave off nationalisation.

"Extensive plagiarism"? Liverpool John Moores reviewed the thesis and cleared Jason Arday of wrongdoing?
He died nine days after resigning..after a witch hunt.
This is no moment for a victory lap.
Sorry. I'm appalled.

Attention scum teenagers: stop eating avocado toast, shirking work, persecuting your elders and having genders. Now, do your patriotic duty (get obliterated to a fine mist by weapons that might as well have been fired from outer space, in a new, somehow even dumber war)

Lula surrendered to justice, faced his accusers, went to jail on tampered evidence, proved his innocence and then won 2 elections in a row.
Flavio fled a day after he won 60 million votes and a congressional majority.

It has been weeks since news broke that Dr Lola Salem faces charges of possessing indecent images of children.
The British press had weeks to demonstrate consistent standards after hounding Professor Jason Arday over unproven plagiarism allegations. Instead, the restraint shown towards Salem has made the contrast even harder to ignore.
This contrast exposes the racial double standard yet again: what counts as "newsworthy" depends less on the seriousness of an allegation than on the colour of the person facing it.
These "journalists" and "news outlets" have spent months destroying their own credibility.
The result is a press that has squandered public trust and driven readers towards independent media.
