Today is October 14, 2026. Exactly two years ago, a little after 3 p.m., my daughter’s body was found in her dorm room at Rider University. The university was busy celebrating National Coming Out Day while my daughter’s body was lying in her room, decomposing for 4 days. Her boyfriend, who had broken up with her the night before, was posing for the university’s Instagram, smiling. Two years have passed. So many things have happened since Ilene was gone. Her transgender therapist, who was treating her and teaching her how her mother had supposedly traumatized her, changed workplaces and moved to another state shortly after Ilene’s death. The president of Rider University retired. The transgender pastor who filed a DCF complaint against me, accusing me of abuse and neglect because I did not affirm my daughter’s male identity, was investigated by Project Veritas. The DCF social worker who handled my daughter’s case also changed workplaces after Ilene died. Rider’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion, whose members called me transphobic and homophobic without ever meeting me, was renamed the Center for Community and Belonging. National Coming Out Day, which the university once celebrated so actively, no longer appears to be celebrated with the same kind of events. At least, I cannot find any on the university’s website. Why? So many changes. And I cannot help but wonder: why did so many things change within a year after Ilene was gone? Why did so many people move on, change jobs, retire, or change the names of the institutions they were part of? Is it all just a coincidence? But one thing has not changed. James Cody Bryant, the man federally charged in Washington state for allegedly helping the Canadian trans school mass sh—ter Jesse van Rootselaar (pictured below) kill seven women and children in Tumbler Ridge, is trans and uses the name "Melody," or "Mel." The criminal complaint shows one of the conversations between the two trans radicals before the February 2026 mass sh—ting. "U can post them if I die," the shooter wrote. Rootselaar shared photos of himself posing in a miniskirt with magazines and the tactical gear he intended to use in the school shooting. Bryant allegedly gave him advice on how to prepare for the attack and sent him money for gear. Other exchanges in the court document show how Rootselaar didn't want his mother knowing Bryant's "deadname" if he sent money on PayPayl, and discussing how a Pride flag was part of his gear. The sh—ting ended up being one of the deadliest in Canadian history. Canadian police and media described the killer as a "female in a dress," with the press continuing to refer to Rootselaar as a woman. So far, the media is not reporting that Bryant is trans.
