I don’t think anyone can appreciate the emotional and physical toll of being the chat’s investigative journalist, foreign correspondent, and breaking news anchor. I didn’t ask to be the backbone of the group’s information infrastructure, but here we are. It’s the burden I carry.

These numbers will get adjusted as I get more data. So far, with 99.5% of the votes in, Talarico won roughly 83% of independents and 11.5% of Republicans.

If this lead holds, the Court of Criminal Appeals goes from 9-0 to 6-3
If big leads hold, Republican majority on Texas Supreme Court goes from 9-0 to 5-4. 15th appeals court - opened in 2024 for appeals involving the state and business court - will go from all-GOP to all-Democrat. Seven incumbents facing defeat are Gov. Abbott appointees. #txlege

Christa Pike - the death row prisoner who survived two doses of the lethal injection pentobarbital in Tennessee in September - has released a very personal statement from isolation in a prison medical ward. It’s worth a read: “One month ago on September 30, I walked into the execution chamber at Riverbend men’s prison prepared to die. I had made my peace. I had told the people who loved me, supported me and stood by me through the years I was grateful for them. I had also told the people in the room and who were there to witness my execution that I was leaving them in loving kindness. “Several days later I woke up alone in a hospital confused and in pain. There hasn't been a moment since that night when I haven't been in pain. My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still struggle to speak. And the pain isn't just physical. There is pain in my mind and in my soul. “I had not contemplated life beyond that night, and I’m deeply hurt by the incompetence that has put so many people in this terrible position. I continue to think about my victim’s family and the terrible pain and loss they have endured. “I am recovering, and I know that I am getting stronger. But healing is not the same as being okay. “Since that night, I have been largely isolated in the prison’s medical ward, away from other people and the human connections that mean so much to me. That isolation brings its own kind of pain. I spent 28 years in solitary confinement and much of what I am experiencing today is a repeat of that condition. “I am searching for meaning in what happened to me. One thing that has given me strength is the extraordinary love and support I have received from people around the world. I am overwhelmed by the kindness and prayers of people I have known for years and complete strangers who have never met me. To know that so many people care about me, that they see me as a human being whose life matters, is something I cannot fully put into words. It is humbling, and it has touched me more deeply than I can explain. “I also want to thank the first responders, doctors, nurses and everyone at the hospital who cared for me. They treated me with compassion, dignity and respect. I will never forget their kindness. I also want to thank my attorneys and everyone who has fought for me, stood beside me and refused to give up on me. “I don't know why I survived that night. I don't know what comes next. Some days, finding hope is harder than others. For now, I am trying to heal, one day at a time. And I am holding on to the love and kindness of so many people who have reminded me that I am not alone.”

This is true - the RRC race is a bellwether. Republican friends - a vote for @bofrench is a vote for a dark future for the GOP, a future in which conservative Indians, Latinos, and reasonable independents abandon our party and consign us to permanent minority status. We can survive a 2-1 majority on the RRC. We cannot survive Bo French.
One of the most closely watched midterm races won’t determine the balance of power in Congress. But it could be a bellwether for the future of the Republican Party, and set the contours for acceptable discourse in mainstream politics. It is the race for the Texas Railroad Commission. I'm the kind of guy who tries to see value in all cultures, but if you're executing people for having sex then sorry, you're just barbaric. I am a better person than you, my values and culture are superior to yours, and I hope your culture perishes. Also goes for blasphemy laws
For those of you who are still being mislead by the fake news of the execution in Saudi. Here is what really happened. Now judge it yourself. Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter, two Bangladeshi nationals employed as cleaning workers for the Bin Laden Group in Mecca, became romantically involved while commuting to work. Nazrul lived in a residential villa in Hayyal Iskan, while Sithi resided in Batha Kuraysh. In May 2023, the two engaged in illicit relations in a secluded stairwell room between Gates 85 and 87 of Masjidul Haram. Nazrul had asked an Indian acquaintance to stand guard downstairs, but the friend secretly recorded the encounter on video. Later, when the Indian national attempted to make advances toward Sithi and was rejected, he leaked the video online. The video quickly went viral, prompting immediate intervention by Saudi authorities, who successfully apprehended all three individuals. The Indian national received a 20-year prison sentence for recording and distributing the footage. Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter were detained immediately following their arrest in May 2023. Nazrul had originally arrived in Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh between November 10 and 13, 2022. Following his arrest in May 2023, he remained incarcerated throughout a lengthy three-and-a-half to four-year judicial process leading up to October 2026. Throughout this period, official protocol dictated that the Saudi government notify the employer (sponsor) rather than foreign government authorities. Various rumors circulated online falsely claiming that the individuals were pilgrims performing Umrah or that the charges stemmed merely from public displays of affection. While the defendants were unmarried, the severity of the legal outcome was not solely based on the act of zina (adultery). Because the offense took place within the sacred precincts of Masjidul Haram, the court determined that they had severely violated the sanctity and honor of Islam's holiest mosque. Consequently, senior judges of the Supreme Court handed down the death penalty as an exemplary punishment aligned with Quranic principles and the Sunnah.

I don’t get it. A “CNN reporter” will “cover” the debate no matter what. Does Paxton mean he doesn’t want CNN to moderate the debate? Pretty sure Fox has offered and Talarico has agreed. It’s almost like he’s just super scared and kinda beta. I mean he keeps calling Talarico effeminate etc. How manly is it to be scared to debate someone you call a girly man?

Maybe … just maybe … a truthful accounting of fiscal spending is useful to fully inform an electorate interested in enacting fiscally competent council members. 🤔
I am voting against Prop I. Not because I think Austin’s budget doesn’t need an audit; I just don’t think it’s a good idea to make it a charter amendment. If you want to see the city spend our tax dollars more carefully, vote for a more fiscally competent City Council.
