Replay: Martin Luther and the Rule of Faith, with Dr. Todd Hains

Replying to @malcolmguite
@malcolmguite’s new book makes timely the timeless, like the Inklings did last century, bringing forth the wisdom of ancient legends for modern ears.
In the age of AI slop and shortened attention spans, I almost can’t believe it exists.
Review with @mereorthodoxy coming soon

Resisting Therapy Culture, with Matthew Loftus
Therapy culture (not therapy itself) has gotten way out of hand. Too many of life's normal vicissitudes are treated as mental illnesses.

New on Christians Reading Classics: Billy Budd, with Christine Norvell.
A beautiful story can still be brutal, and Billy Budd proves it.

Last week brought news of a significant new resource from @MereOrthodoxy, The Faith Received, a vast online repository of theological texts. For the most part, those texts are in English as a result of AI translation. The discussion around this use of AI has quickly settled into a few camps.
Today at TGC, we published two articles related to this project and this kind of use of AI for text translation.
In the first, @DrJamesEglinton responds to the project urging caution. He argues that the shift from Christianity as a human-translated religion to an AI-translated religion is far from seamless and shouldn’t be overlooked glibly.
In the second, @FredFredSanders views the project as an overwhelming positive, describing the project as “a moon shot for theological retrieval, a giant leap for evangelicalkind.”

Good qs from @jake_meador as he reads @sladesr:
"How does a renewed fusionism account for the technological and legal changes that have normalized public vice in ways that did not exist during the prior era when the fusionists were dominant?"

“Why, in the deepest sense, does self-focus make us miserable? And how can university students unshackle themselves from this tyranny? Two men—Oxford’s C. S. Lewis and Harvard’s William James—illuminated answers to these questions long ago, which we have forgotten. Their ideas, along with modern science, will chart the North Star for elite university students who are suffering today.”

The first published review of my book that I've found so far is a very generous one. I can only hope the work accomplishes what he describes!
