The word elseworld should be stricken from any and all future dealings with DC... let alone any comic book universe that wishes to actually stand a chance
You cannot ask your audience to invest their time, the one resource they will not get back, into your universe, only to sit there and focus on things that aren't connected to your universe.
This lie that everyone should get what they want is something that should be shot down immediately. You don't have to like everything that comes out from the studio, nor should you, but understand that it is all being developed with one common goal in mind.
James Gunn just saying the wishy-washy shit that he says on threads is undermining the greatness at the DCU could be.
Right now he's got no other choice but to knock Man Of Tomorrow out of the park, and it can't just do marginally better than superman, it has to absolutely destroy everything that came before it. Including Batman v Superman.
Anything less than a billion dollars is a failure.
Full fucking stop.
The only way to guarantee that movie hits a Billy is to find some way to introduce the Batman.
And the easiest way to do it is to merge the universes together, give us an older Batman with an established history, and watch the money roll in.
James Gunn’s vanity is going to prevent us from some great DC ‘Elseworlds’ films, isn’t it? This is why creatives and studio shot callers should be separate. Every decision he makes for DC on film serves only his lame #DCU vanity projects he’s constantly having to defend.
Hey RJ, don't you pay for access to Daniel RPK's private discord so you can act a scooper?
There's a reason why you can't actually disprove anything that I said in my post and have to resort to try to using somebody else's argument against mine.
As a person who supposedly is a teacher of middle school students in Alabama, I would hope that you would be able to actually debate a talking point, but then again Alabama is in the bottom five for education
So.... This post tracks.
Since Snorlax here doesn't actually want to respond with any kind of factual data, allow me to provide that for you.
This is the whole thing with rj, he knows it in and out right debate he won't win against me. Because there is no way to debate against the facts that I bring to the table. Instead there's the off-uscation that they like to use in order to kind of distance themselves from any kind of responsibility.
There's a weird creepiness that comes along with knowing that his school teacher hides behind this kind of lackadaisical Behavior, and still tells minors to not interact with them on social media.... all the while they are in their Kpop Demon Hunter Era... you know, a movie for kids 😬😬😬😬

Good lord! You know things are bad when Grace Randolph starts making sense... Lol
But she is correct, the DCU needs to start making money. That $80 billion debt that skydance has now won't pay for itself.
And if James Gunn doesn't start delivering, that 6 billion in cost cutting measures is going to be his paycheck
Variety ran with this story earlier today, but I still stand by my response that it's a cop-out answer and it even further proves that James Gunn is in support of the merger of the Batman Crime Saga and the DCU.
I think James Gunn's latest explanation of the DCU is a bit of a cop-out.
Gunn says the DCU is a universe where individual stories can exist without necessarily building toward something bigger. And look, I get it. CLAYFACE should work as a horror movie on its own. LANTERNS should be able to tell its own story. Nobody needs every project to end with some guy showing up to recruit the next superhero. But if you're building a shared universe, shouldn't there be some larger stakes? Some reason for audiences to invest their time and care about what happens next?
Look at AVENGERS: ENDGAME ENCORE. A seven-year-old movie with a handful of new scenes connecting it to DOOMSDAY just opened to $26 MILLION domestically. That's roughly what CLAYFACE is currently projected to make. Apples to oranges? Absolutely. But Marvel spent years building audience investment, delivered a massive payoff, and now people are showing up AGAIN because they're excited about where the story goes next. Their time and dedication meant something.
And that's what frustrates me about Gunn's answer. I don't think every DCU project needs to be homework for the next one, but there should be a larger narrative that rewards people for paying attention. Otherwise, what's the point of building an interconnected universe in the first place?
I'm starting to wonder if Gunn is so determined to avoid copying Marvel that he's overlooking one of the biggest reasons the MCU worked.
You don't have to copy the formula. But maybe don't ignore why people loved it.
For someone who calls themselves Lord of The Facts you're actually pretty retarded.
I have never supported the Snyder Bros and their cult like Behavior because I know that they're never going to get their way
I don't support the James gunstands that act as bad as the Snyder Bros do
You may not like my opinion but you'll be hard-pressed to deny the facts that I use. Which is why when I look at your username I can't help but laugh
Is Deadline reporting on the box office, or are we already at the point where everyone has to start kissing David Ellison's ring?
Deadline is celebrating the newly merged Paramount-Warner Bros. crossing $1 BILLION domestically, with back-to-back No. 1 weekends for STREET FIGHTER and CLAYFACE. They're even asking if Disney should be worried. Come on. Are we seriously going to pretend that buying Warner Bros. suddenly makes Ellison some kind of Hollywood box office kingmaker?
Paramount had an uneven year. Warner Bros. had an uneven year. Now we're smashing their box office receipts together and acting like Skydance has suddenly cracked the code to theatrical success. Never mind that most of these movies were developed, financed, and produced long before Ellison owned the whole operation.
And that's what gets me. Is this supposed to be actual box office analysis, or are we watching the trades inflate Ellison's ego and manufacture some narrative about his newfound Hollywood dominance? Because asking if Disney should be worried after two weekends of inherited movies feels less like reporting and more like a victory lap nobody actually earned.
Look, Skydance could absolutely become a theatrical powerhouse. But let Ellison actually build something and prove it works before we start crowning him the new king of Hollywood.
Buying a studio doesn't mean you suddenly deserve credit for everything it did before you showed up.
The guy bought Warner Bros., not a fucking time machine.
Can we please stop pretending that a movie making its production budget back at the box office means it's already profitable? Because that's not how this shit works.
CLAYFACE opened to roughly $43 MILLION worldwide against a reported $44 million production budget. Sounds great, right? Except $24.5 million of that came domestically, and theaters keep a percentage of ticket sales. Using the standard 50/50 estimate, Warner Bros. would see around $12.25 million. Add in the $19 million overseas, where studios generally receive a smaller percentage, and you're looking at roughly $20 million coming back to the distributor before expenses.
And that's before we even discuss marketing, which wasn't included in the reported budget. The movie also benefited from filming in the UK, where tax incentives can help reduce production costs. But those incentives don't magically mean the film is already profitable.
Now, CLAYFACE could absolutely become a financial success. It's got a manageable budget, positive audience reactions, Halloween coming up, and eventually digital and streaming revenue. There's a legitimate path forward here.
But people declaring victory because the worldwide gross nearly matches the production budget are skipping a pretty important part of the equation.
Box office gross is NOT studio revenue.
And profitability isn't determined by whichever number makes your favorite franchise look better.
Wow! Look at all that false dmca flagging by @DarkGiftComics
You know, 8 years ago this would have been a much bigger scandal. But it sure seems that a lot of people are okay with this kind of behavior these days...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
CLAYFACE underperforming overseas just shows that the DC brand is not as big as they want.
No amount of cope from DCU stands is going to change the fact that three films have come out and all have underperformed internationally.
I think DC has a much bigger international problem than people realize, and it might have less to do with James Gunn and more to do with the brand's cultural relevance outside of Batman.
Look at the numbers. Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL and BATMAN V SUPERMAN pulled in 56% and 62% of their box office internationally. Meanwhile, SUPERMAN and SUPERGIRL under Gunn's DCU have been much more dependent on American audiences, with roughly 43% of their grosses coming from overseas.
And that makes me wonder if DC's cultural impact outside of Batman just isn't what it used to be. Superman is one of the most recognizable characters in the world, but recognition doesn't necessarily translate into people buying tickets. The international market has changed, superhero fatigue is real, and maybe DC just doesn't have the same worldwide appeal that Marvel spent years building.
Which makes MAN OF TOMORROW a very interesting movie to watch. Can Gunn's Superman build a larger international audience, or are we going to see the same domestic-heavy performance again?
Because at some point, DC needs to figure out how to make the rest of the world care about these characters as much as American audiences apparently do.
If what we've been hearing about Tamara Joseph is accurate, Ethan Klein has found himself in a real sticky situation 😂🤣😂

I would like to remind people that there is a clear reason why you should not trust critic scores, critic reviews, are anything that uses any kind of algorithmic metric.
