I once disabled our product for the entire country of Norway for a day because `NO` in YAML evaluates to `false` 😔
Configuration ⚙️ Do you prefer JSON or YAML when setting up configuration? 🤔 (dependencies, build systems, CI pipelines, infrastructure, etc ...)

A great VP of Engineering need not be a great engineer, but must be a great communicator, skilled at working through people issues, adept at rejecting black & white thinking, and skilled in optimizing processes and systems.

The purpose of unit tests is for the programmer to specify the behavior of a small family of functions. The purpose of an integration test is to specify the plumbing and choreography of several of those families; but not their behavior. – at Gages Lake, IL

A pointer is an address in your city. I can pass it around without moving your house. If you deference a pointer you have to go visit the house to see what’s really there. If you show up and there’s an empty lot with a post-it with a new address, that’s a pointer to a pointer.
What's the most difficult programming concept you can explain in a tweet?

Leaders should be thinking about how the public will judge them in one year or two years from now, not one or two weeks from now. If they move early & act decisively, it will be remembered. Too late & their political careers will be (or should be) over.

Thread of the month. Go read it. I'll wait.
1/ First things first: Metrics, Logs, and Traces are not “the three pillars of observability.” They are just the raw materials – the *telemetry* – and we must reframe our discussion of observability around use cases and problems-to-solve. Thread:

This is an absolutely inspiring story of how one company transformed its culture and practices to let engineers own their code in production, with 3 SREs supporting 15-20 devs on a single monolith codebase. – at San Francisco, CA

Interesting insights into how #moneyou is leveraging #AWS serverless technologies to hook up their cloud based frontends to on-prem backend systems. #serverlessdaysams
The primary use of the word “privilege” nowadays is to disqualify ideas based on who is offering them. This is a form of ad hominem argument and is fundamentally invalid. Ideas must be debated on their merits, not on the status of their authors.

It's too bad that companies focus so much on Agile management and not Agile engineering. Being successful at iteration is highly dependent on incremental engineering skills, like TDD. You need both, though the management gets a lot easier when supported by iterative engineering.
