When the book announcement about ‘Adam and Eve’ to be published on October 6 came from Harper Collins, it came with the line that it would be Jeffrey Archer’s final novel. For those of us praying that the prolific writer who whipped out so many unputdownable stories would change his mind, the hope died on October 5, when he breathed his last. He was 86.

“When women rise, magic happens, and the Hargila takes flight,” said Purnima Devi Barman, the businessline Changemaker of 2026 as she accepted the award to thunderous applause.
