They absolutely do. And so do her Jewish and Israeli constituents in Edmonton. And, take it from me as somebody with said relatives in her riding, they don't only feel like she doesn't unequivocally stand against antisemitism, but that she actively and proudly foments it.
To Muslim communities across BC: you deserve respect, safety, and leaders who stand unequivocally against Islamophobia. You should never have to question whether your elected representatives will defend you against hate. (1/2)

If you systemically apply a litmus test to “Zionists”, you’ve just paved the way for the same done to other groups. Systemic discrimination breeds systemic discrimination.

Hamas fighter Ahed Abu Youssef was featured in a recent martyr video booby-trapping a Gaza apartment wearing a Nike hat & jeans. If you want to understand why much of Gaza was destroyed this is why. IDF soldiers were not going to walk into 1000s of homes rigged to kill them.

The bigotry that appears in the replies to this story shows why commemorating the history of the Purge is so important. Lives were ruined by the actions of the federal government. This monument will ensure we remember the sacrifices of so many people. Thank you @MDouglas_YYZ

Nobody owes you a single thing. Hasan Piker and his fanbase are relentlessly brutal towards anyone they have the slightest disagreement with. Piker will mock, smear, defame and ruthlessly target his ideological adversaries. He deserves the same level of sympathy and support he gives everyone else: zero.
✨ @hasanthehun's message to @TheDemocrats: "I know we don't always see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, but you have to literally, at some point, I know you don't want to do this, defend me. Not because you love what I have to say, not because I'm part of this coalition, even though I am, whether you like it or not, but you are going to inevitably have to say, 'this is a ridiculous that we're having because the real conversation Republicans don't want to have is the cost of living crisis.' That requires you to basically to take the L a little bit and maybe be a bit more honest about how I'm not this dangerous, toxic radical force."

Some of the best years of my life as a journalist were at @NYMag. So the current cover package on Arab and Muslim New York, a package that couldn’t find a way to celebrate one part of the city without also denigrating and erasing another, made me too sad to comment. Why bother anymore. But this @elikowaz response got it just right. open.substack.com/pub/kowaz/…

Germany's intelligence chief just warned a closed Bundestag meeting. The Muslim Brotherhood is infiltrating German political institutions. Strategic. Patient. Non-violent. Building relationships, influencing legislation, embedding through civic organisations funded by German taxpayers. His most alarming finding: left-wing parties are the most vulnerable. The SPD. The Greens. The Left Party. "More open and susceptible" due to what he called "a poorly understood concept of tolerance." A German political scientist confirmed it in blunter terms. Left-wing allies "possess no argumentative resistance to the Brotherhood. They are discursively co-opted and subordinate themselves." The Brotherhood does not confront the left. It cultivates it. meforum.org/fwi/fwi-news/ger…

The definition of anti-Palestinian racism that considers Jewish self determination - Zionism- as “racist” is deeply problematic and inherently discriminatory itself.

¹ Thanks to the work of @bandlersbanter, @AshleyRindsberg, @EllaTravelsLove and @shlomitlir, there's growing awareness of coordinated ideological takeover of Wikipedia's Israel/Palestine coverage after Oct. 7 So I decided to measure its extent and the results are extraordinary🧵

Something is deeply shocking me, some people who call themselves “human rights activists” speak endlessly about Palestinian rights, yet won’t utter a single word about Hamas’s brutality against Palestinians. Not just silence, they actively cover for it. Spare us the hypocrisy.

Some quick remarks: 1. An embarrassing and foolish episode by the Israeli police- but hardly surprising. The police in Israel is in a state of rapid decline and politicization. Some of the reasons are structural; others are directly tied to the appointment of Itamar Ben-Gvir- a convicted felon, a disciple of Kahanism, and a former member of the outlawed racist movement Kach- as minister in charge. This nomination was a personal decision by Benjamin Netanyahu. Ben-Gvir has sidelined professional officers, elevated individuals with little experience to senior roles, and driven standards to new lows. There is now an appeal before the Supreme Court seeking his removal on the grounds that he is effectively not obeying the law. The attorney general- whom Netanyahu is seeking to dismiss- supports the appeal. 2. This event today should not be interpreted as a policy shift in the Old City of Jerusalem. The swift Israeli backtrack reflects that. It is not a case of a policy tested and abandoned; rather, it appears that a junior officer made a discretionary call- amid fears of an Iranian ballistic missile strike- that if there were restrictions on events in the Old City, even the Patriarch and a small entourage would not be allowed entry. 3. This government- again, with Ben-Gvir and Netanyahu’s tacit backing- is the most hostile to other religions since the state’s founding. This is also evident in the erosion of the status quo on the Temple Mount. The former police chief of Jerusalem was fired by Ben Gvir because he didnt agree to make changes to the status quo. Yet freedom of religion remains the law of the land. That is precisely why this story was exposed in the Israeli media and immediately became a major issue, covered as it was: because it is not the norm. Another couple of years with Ben-Gvir with the backing of the Likud, and it might become exactly that.
For the first time in centuries, Catholic leaders have been barred from Jerusalem's Church of Holy Sepulchre on Palm Sunday, according to church authorities in the holy city. cnn.it/47s8ybz

In response to the election of Avi Lewis as the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Rachel Chertkoff, Senior Vice President, Community Engagement, and Richard Marceau Senior Vice-President, Strategic Initiatives and General Counsel, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, issued the following statement: “Today, the New Democratic Party elected Avi Lewis as its leader. We are left with a deep sense of sadness. “Rachel’s uncle ran for a provincial arm of the NDP in 1963. He believed, as so many Canadian Jews of his generation did, that the democratic left was a natural home for a community that had faced persecution. It is hard to imagine that he would recognize the party today. "The two of us, along with other concerned Jewish and allied activists, have spent years at the table with NDP leaders, staff, and members. We engaged in good faith and made the case that protecting Jewish Canadians from hatred is not partisan, but foundational. The hope we had that these leaders could bring themselves back from the brink is now exhausted. “This weekend’s convention was a stark reminder of how far the party has drifted from its roots as the voice of Canada’s working class and trade union movement. Canadian Jews helped build that movement. Today, many are made to feel they no longer belong in it. At a time when antisemitism has reached a crisis, the NDP has become a hostile place for the vast majority of Jewish Canadians who want to fight for progressive values. 94 per centof Jewish Canadians support the existence of the State of Israel yet have been pushed out. “Avi Lewis is himself Jewish, and we respect his family’s history in this party. But Jewish identity is not a shield against accountability. When a leader declares that Zionism is inseparable from ethnic cleansing, he is not engaging in legitimate policy critique. He is telling Jewish Canadians that a core part of their identity is illegitimate. That is exclusion. “On the eve of this convention, rabbis from across our community issued a clear call. They warned that Jewish members feel increasingly alienated, that antizionism is being used as a cover for antisemitism, and that NDP spaces are becoming unsafe for Jewish and all Canadians with mainstream views. “We have said before and repeat now that criticism of Israeli government policy is legitimate. But there is a line between criticism and the systematic delegitimization of Jewish identity. That line has been crossed repeatedly. Today, it was crossed again, without ambiguity. “We will hold Avi Lewis, as we hold every public leader, accountable. “But we will not pretend today is anything other than what it is. A painful rupture, decades in the making, with dangerous implications for our community and all Canadians.” -30-
