VERY SPECIAL HOME NEEDED
Poppy, a Chihuahua, and Scruffs, a Chihuahua cross, have arrived at Bleakholt together, and we would absolutely love to see them find a home together.
Both girls are 9 years old and have a few health issues, but that doesn't stop them from being two incredibly loving little ladies.
Scruffs has an unusual front right leg, which we suspect may be the result of an old fracture that was never treated.
Poppy has glaucoma and requires eye drops twice a day, which will be provided by our vets. Sadly, she also has a very severe heart murmur, which is as serious as it can be.
Ideally, we would love these two girls to stay together. They will need a home where they are the only pets, so they can enjoy all the love, attention and sofa space to themselves!
Despite everything, Poppy and Scruffs are full of love and are desperately searching for someone whose laps they can call their own.

Could you be the person to give her the happy ending she deserves? Pud is a female Lurcher/Whippet-type dog, medium-sized with a strong, athletic build. Her exact age is unknown, but she is physically fit and healthy. She was rescued in a terrible condition and has received the veterinary care she desperately needed. Although she has permanent wounds to her face and scarring across her body, she is now safe, healing and ready to begin the next chapter of her life.
She does have some hair loss, which we believe is likely related to her poor condition. Thankfully, she is gradually improving and looking better week by week. It is wonderful to see her slowly recover. Her personality is what makes her so special Despite everything she has endured, she is genuinely one of the softest, sweetest dogs you could ever meet. She absolutely adores people, loves cuddles and is happiest when she can curl up on the sofa for a cosy snooze beside someone she trusts. She has been carefully tested around food and toys and has shown no aggression whatsoever. She is a gentle, affectionate girl who simply wants to feel safe and loved. She could live in a family home with children, although we feel a home without babies, toddlers or very young children would be safest.
Because of her existing injuries, little ones could accidentally hurt her without meaning to. What about other animals? Because of her difficult past, we believe it is safest to walk her on a lead and have her wear a muzzle around other animals. With her muzzle fitted and her lead on, she is not reactive and happily walks around other dogs.
Her future home must be understanding of this precaution and committed to keeping her and other animals safe. The home she deserves We are looking for a truly special home that will see past her scars and someone who is capable of handling her. You must have a high enclosed garden and be prepared to walk her safely around other animals - she would love to do things like go to an enclosed dog park and zoom around. I was called yesterday by a pound we have worked with for many years now ...
A puppy was handed in yesterday - the story was he had been 'found' - but as is so often the case, we are pretty certain the 'finder' was the owner!
The puppy, now named PIPER, had clearly suffered a a broken leg and the Council would not, understandably, be able to cover the costs of hospitalisation and repair.
Piper has spent the last 24 hours in the veterinary hospital and after x-rays confirming and splinting and pain relief he has gone to stay with the kennel owner who has become a friend over the years and will care for him in her home until Tuesday when he will hopefully have the necessary surgery to repair the leg.

Dave is a sweet 6 year old male cat. He is looking for a new home.
Dave is registered at the vets and healthy with no issues.
He is a house cat and would be best in a home with no young kids or other pets.
He likes a mix of wet and dry food.
Dave likes his home comforts and will sleep near his owner at night or on his cat tree.
He also enjoys his toys and likes to hide these around the house.
Dave can be shy at first but once he gets to know his new owner he is very loving and does his own thing.
Dave is a great companion and would suit someone who is on their own.

Connie is a 9 year old female cross breed. She is looking for a new home as sadly her owner passed away.
Connie is best in a home without other pets as this is what she is use too. She would be best in a home without kids.
Connie is chipped and spayed and fully house trained.
She gets heart medication daily for her cardiac valve, she does well on her medication which doesn't cause her any issues.
Connie eats butchers complete wet food, grain free and absolutely loves treats!
She adores people and will jump up to sit next to anyone who visits. She is registered with the vets.
Her owner's family have agreed to pay half of her monthly medication for the rest of her life.
Connie travels well in the car.
She walks well on the lead but will pull if she sees another dog.
Connie isn't a fan of being groomed.
She would be best with someone who is on their own or a couple looking for a companion.

Halloween is one night.
Tonight.
If you have to waste a food item (and I strongly suggest you don't), please put it out for that one night, then safely dispose of it.
Please DO NOT put it out for the wildlife.
Once you've handled it, cut it, left it out in the open, unrefrigerated, it will not be hygienic or safe for anyone to eat.
Pumpkins are a low-acid vegetable, so once they are cut and left at room temperature, pathogens will rapidly grow on the flesh, producing mould spores.
Our precious wildlife do not have any magical properties that protect them against food poisoning.
Additionally, this time of year there are baby hedgehogs around, born too late to find natural food, desperate to eat anything to stop the pain of starvation.
Pumpkin has a laxative affect so it would be particularly cruel to leave it out for starving wildlife to eat in desperation, causing them to lose precious fluids that may make the difference between life and death.
So no matter what you read elsewhere, please DO NOT put your discarded decoration out for the birds or any other wildlife.
Please DO NOT compost them either, as a composting pumpkin can produce highly toxic tremorgenic mycotoxins, which will be deadly if the compost bin is not properly secured and is accessible to wildlife (or pets).
Many hedgehogs, seeking the warmth of a compost bin, die this way every year.
Once you've used the pumpkin as decoration it's waste, fit only for the bin.
Please help get this vital message spread far and wide, to save precious lives and prevent suffering.

The fine, strong synthetic fibres of this lethal 'web' are difficult for animals to see at dusk and can quickly wrap around their legs, wings, and neck, trapping and killing birds, insects and mammals.
When Eden the hedgehog struggled to free herself the web tightened, cutting off circulation and causing deep wounds.
Can you imagine the pain and sheer terror?
And then seeing dawn approach, while hanging there, tightly bound and helpless, only an inch above the ground but suffering slow strangulation.
Aside from being stressed, dehydrated, starving and exhausted, she also had horrific bite/peck wounds to her face, where she had been held there, helpless, unable to curl and defend herself, while a predator tried to eat her alive.
Tragically her constriction injuries were too severe to survive, and poor Eden had to be put to sleep.
If you have used this deadly cruel trap to 'decorate' your garden, I beg you - take it down now.
Please spread this vital information, and help save lives.
