Travelling with my family on Train No. 12522 from Ernakulam Jn to Chennai Central. Despite S2 being reserved and occupied by passengers, including many women, a huge crowd of unreserved passengers boarded at Coimbatore and Tiruppur, blocking the passage and making it difficult for women to access restrooms. The TTE merely fined them and allowed them to continue occupying the compartment. When passengers complained to the lady TTE, her arrogant response was, “Why do you book tickets on this train if this is how things are going to be?” #RailwayAuthorities and #RPF officials conducted a namesake inspection and removed around 10 passengers, but they reboarded the same compartment as soon as the officials left. This raises serious concerns about enforcement. Requesting the Railway Authorities and RPF to take immediate action, ensure reserved passengers' rights and provide a safe, comfortable journey. I spent three days on a tourist visit to Ernakulam/Cochin and was genuinely impressed by several aspects of the city. The roads appeared clean, with very little litter. I noticed motorists, including cars and heavy vehicles, generally respecting pedestrians while they crossed the roads. Since many houses have adequate parking space, vehicles are mostly not parked on the roads, which helps keep the streets less congested. Another notable observation was that I hardly came across intoxicated persons lying on roads or in public places and disturbing others. I sincerely appreciate the citizens of Ernakulam/Cochin, the authorities and the governance for maintaining such a civic environment. However, one serious concern I noticed was the HIGH-SPEED, RASH AND NEGLIGENT DRIVING of some private buses. Their driving often creates fear and poses a serious threat to the safety of passengers and other road users. I hope the authorities take necessary action to regulate bus speeds, ensure that buses are maintained in good condition and strictly enforce safe and responsible driving practices. As per #CMDA norms, buildings with basement facilities within CMDA limits are required to provide appropriate vertical access, including #Lift facilities wherever applicable. At #TheWestinHotel, #Velachery, two-wheeler parking is provided in the basement. However, guests reportedly have no access to a passenger lift from the basement. Though a lift is visibly available, hotel staff informed me that it is a service lift meant exclusively for hotel operations and not for guests. This causes inconvenience, particularly to elderly guests, persons with mobility difficulties and families using the basement parking. Watched #BATHTHA and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Director #BalajiTharaneetharan has narrated the story effectively and crafted it as an engaging entertainer. #VijaySethupathi, #LijomolJose and the rest of the cast have delivered performances that do justice to their roles. Child artiste #Sahasra’s innocent smile adds a delightful charm to the film. But it is child artiste #SaiPrithivRaj who truly steals the show! His body language, innocence, expressions and dialogue delivery showcase remarkable acting potential. He deserves appreciation and, I believe, could be a strong contender for several awards. #SelvakumarSK’s cinematography beautifully recreates the feel of the 1980s, while #RKalaivanan’s crisp editing keeps the film engaging. #SaiAbhyankkar’s BGM works well and enhances several scenes, though the songs themselves leave less of an impact. There was a time when Tamil films were screened for journalists before release, allowing critics to watch the film objectively and provide genuine reviews. With the rise of digital media, many retired journalists and freelancers also entered the space, strengthening film publicity while maintaining journalistic ethics. Post-COVID, the landscape changed dramatically. Influencers from food, fashion, cooking, comedy and other platforms began reviewing films and many built successful audiences. Unfortunately, some filmmakers who failed at the box office began blaming print, satellite and digital journalists for “spoilers,” while the overwhelming majority of journalists continued to distinguish between good and bad content. What is more concerning today is the increasing practice of giving special screenings to influencers before release and in some cases, allegedly encouraging paid or exaggerated promotional reviews to create artificial hype. A journalist’s responsibility is to appreciate what works and point out what doesn’t. That honest criticism has historically pushed filmmakers to be more careful about their storytelling. Today, however, films dealing with graphic violence, blood shed, sexual abuse or drug abuse can sometimes receive enthusiastic promotional coverage, while genuinely content-driven films struggle to sustain audiences even for a day or two. Exhibitors are then forced to reduce shows or withdraw films due to poor footfall. Not every influencer does this, and not every promotional review is fake. But influencers who review films should recognise their social responsibility and give audiences an honest assessment rather than blindly amplifying publicity. Directors, producers and OTT platforms also need to reflect on where this trend is heading.
