Today, the @WhiteHouseCEA released the 2025 Economic Report of the President. Chapter 7 of the report references AESG Policy Director @parduel's IN BRIEF on rising worker productivity in the US: “The CEA estimates that mean real weekly wages paid to college-educated workers who were not K-12 teachers rose by 15.4 percent between 2000 and 2023 as worker productivity also rose, in part due to technological innovation in other sectors of the economy.” whitehouse.gov/wp-content/up…

In his new @WSJ op-ed, @jasonfurman stresses the importance of considering tradeoffs in economic policymaking. At our recent policy volume launch, he applied this framework to the case of rebuilding America's chip industry. Watch here:
My latest @WSJopinion is a theme I've been hitting a lot lately--about tradeoffs and the conservative vice of only worrying about costs and the liberal vice of thinking everything is a benefit. buff.ly/4abW2gg

Rare criticism of Trump from Blinken: He said Trump's idea to have the US take Greenland from Denmark was "obviously not a good one." He and the French foreign minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, pointed to potential strains in alliances as Trump returns: nytimes.com/2025/01/08/world…

Some great ideas here. Permitting and insourcing talent is key. But two stray thoughts: 1. Infrastructure data was probably better in the 1930s! They had complete data on invoices and timesheets. We should do this again. 2. US is behind on BIM adoption, room for investment.
We’re also excited to release this @AspenEcon paper by @ZLiscow looking at how the US can get better at building infrastructure. He brings together several different threads on state capacity into one piece, including: 1. Personnel 2. Permitting process 3. Data/planning tools

Appreciate the compliment -- And there is indeed a lot on China in my Aspen Economic Strategy Group paper
No one has better covered China's unbalanced economy than @Brad_Setser "China, put simply, saves far too much and thus relies too heavily on exports to offset its own limited internal demand" economicstrategygroup.org/wp…

US interest payments relative to revenues are as high as the interest payments to revenues of low income countries... Makes you think. Great chart
This chart, from chapter 1 of the IMF's latest WEO, is absolutely brilliant. Obviously true when you think about it (US has a lot of debt, relatively high nominal rates and low government revenues) but still striking 1/3
