“Wedgewood,” this fraudulent pollster who just made stuff and got the NYT to repeat their fake results, has done incalculable damage to the fake polling industry.
Regulate polls, not prediction markets. There’s no evidence that betting harms election integrity, but fake surveys have done so this year, write Harry Crane @HarryDCrane and @KolemanStrumpf

Israel is an independent state that has every right to deny entry to people who turn up at its borders simply to cause trouble.
This idea that activists who seek to undermine Israrl have a right to get in is just stupid.

It's rather important to the American project to prevent people like this from getting the power to implement their agenda.

Re: "that ad is about Israel, not Jews":
If there was an ad hammering on the idea that the reason you can't pay for your groceries is that we're spending too much on aid to Africa, I'm guessing few people left of center would have trouble seeing that as racist

I’ve been thinking this too. I’ve always been skeptical about Murkowski. I just feel like growing up in a political family and then getting elected yourself entrenches your party as part of your identity.
But I actually think there’s a chance she’d do it in this exact scenario

Obama's leadership of 2010s academic trends usually wasn't through a strictly top-down mechanism (tho sometimes it was! Dear Colleague etc). But like Geoff says, the professoriate basically saw him as being like their king. When the only academic discipline he ever attacked was Art History (not Econ for cheering along the trends that led to the financial crash; not Psych for the fake studies; not STEM for cranking out way more degrees than there were jobs), this sent a powerful signal. Like I said earlier: I don't think the humanities ever really got their mojo back after this.

I think I would blame humanities academics more for culturally identifying with Obama than I would any of the latter’s particular policies. University people really felt he was their guy. so he could count on their unwavering loyalty without having to do anything positive for universities and in fact, doing quite a bit negative as I think you’re suggesting.

Republicans very much deserve to lose the midterms, bigly, but Democrats hardly deserve to win. If they *again* misinterpret an anti Trump vote as an affirmative vote for them or their base they will tip us further into the abyss – at Falls Church, VA
