We're at a point where this Anakin/Star Wars discourse has become farcical because all the right-wing chuds are drawing the completely wrong political lesson from it. Short version: Palpatine won because he gets human nature better than everyone else in the franchise. 🧵
This is what they stole from us

If this scene wasn’t in the movie it would be 10xs better. The jump that Anakin goes from *would die defending all of these children* to *killing them* is quite hamfisted and takes me you out of the movie completely

The obsession with "empathy" has created a situation in which the exact opposite of empathy is mistaken for it. People who are unable to model the minds of others assume that other people only do bad things because of circumstances outside of their control. "I would never do that unless I had to, so neither would other people." That's not empathy. That's projecting your own thoughts and motivations onto others, which is the opposite of empathy. This inability to model the minds of others hinders their ability to accept a fictional character who is motivated by things that would not motivate themselves. Such a character comes across as unbelievable to them.

This is probably my favorite piece of art to come out of this whole thing. Every time I see it, it makes me laugh.

The reason so many people are so upset about The Wrong People being sad at Sir Patrick Stewart's death is because it proves that not making your sociopolitical beliefs your entire identity is not only possible, but celebrated, and they just can't have that.

Wil Wheaton really is the greatest example of why leftism is so repulsive to most people. He is an entitled, bitter, man filled with anger and hatred that he is too weak to do anything with. All he can do is scream and vent his neutered vitriol. And leftism encourages young men to be like him.
Wil Wheaton to Stephen Miller after his Patrick Stewart tribute: “Keep my Captain’s name out of your f**king Nazi mouth. He despised you, and everything you stand for.”

1. It doesn’t matter if Padme would support it. 2. Padme wouldn’t support child murder but she did fully fall in love with a dude who’d just told her about doing exactly that. Maybe her moral judgement isn’t what you think it is.
People LARPing the Empire like this aren't Star Wars fans, they don't understand the first thing about the themes or characters. Padme would never, never support tyranny like this. And if she did, Anakin would put HER on the throne and stand beside it.

I’ll put it this way as someone who has been married for 12 years and who has only gotten happier about it over those 12 years. Ladies, you get more of what you reward.
why can't all men be like this

If you could reasonably make the argument that it was anything besides revenge or that Anakin learned anything from it besides killing people can feel good, then maybe it could be. There’s really nothing functionally different between Anakin and the sand people in this moment. Both kill people because no one is going to stop them and they want to.
am I suppose to pretend that this wasn't the most righteous moment in the entire series?

The sand people in Star Wars are basically monsters. Killing them is probably a net good for Tatooine in 90% of circumstances. But that isn’t the same as saying it is a good thing for Anakin to do in this moment and in the long run it led to the deaths of countless innocents just like Shmi.

I wasn’t really planning on it to be honest but you’re selling me on the idea.
If I catch you watching this shit just know I’m judging you and think of you as less of a person.

There’s plenty of fucking social animals. They cooperate, compete, and kill one another. Being a social animal doesn't produce a coherent moral framework out of the goddamn ether. cooperative instinct and the moral obligations governing that cooperation are two entirely different things. How are you people confusing them? Everything you call morality is based off those principles. You’re breathing water and going what is Water?

Well yeah. Humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years. They survived off each other. We are social animals you dolt

A huge amount of the romantic pathologies besetting men and women are due to erotic pathologies. Porn is devastating us. We thought we could play a game of "ha ha, we're so superior and enlightened that we can freely indulge in civilization-destroying perversions with no bad consequences!" We couldn't.

Extremely rare and valuable resources are being wasted. This action is precisely why the Sith always collapse in on themselves. The reason they kill these kids from the Sith perspective is out of fear of being supplanted. A Sith can never act except from selfish desire and it always destroys them in the end.

They turn every official version of every story they can into their trash propaganda and call it progress. We create fan art and brilliant fresh stories and they have a meltdown. Do you see how fragile their power is anon?
