The Storm Prediction Center will start issuing longer range (Day 4-8) severe risk outlooks by 4:30pm EST / 5:30pm EDT daily starting in mid-November. That means two longer range severe weather forecasts from them per day instead of one.

Somebody turned the saturation up on Mount Rainier.
Autumn has painted the national park's slopes in brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow and green.
Planning a visit? Check the forecast and park conditions before you go. Mountain weather can change quickly.

Today we saw a nor'easter become a subtropical storm.
That mostly means the system has shed its warm and cold fronts and is spinning on its own, getting some energy from thunderstorms around the center.

“The instrument changes were partly motivated by a push to narrow the satellites’ applicability to weather forecasting, rather than conducting climate research as well. Among the instruments that were nixed: a tool to monitor air quality, including hourly monitoring of wildfire smoke; as well as one meant to study water quality and ocean currents, along with harmful algae blooms.”
The Trump administration’s cuts to weather satellites will set the country back nearly a decade, experts say. The loss of data used to observe, forecast and research extreme weather could prevent the US from making major advances in weather prediction in the coming years. cnn.it/4k6eD4o

16" of snow (1.76" liquid) has fallen at NWS Great Falls since Saturday PM!
This historic storm lands as the #9 all-time 2-day snowfall (15.7") and #17 all-time 3-day snowfall for Great Falls. It also marks our 2nd snowiest start to a snow season on record, trailing 2019 #MTwx

if you want an idea of how much Beaver Stadium has changed during the past two years of renovations, these two photos from @GracexBrennan — vs. Illinois in the September 2024 White Out "Energy" game, vs. USC last night — do a great job of illustrating just that.
