Thanks to @BoozAllen and the @FAANews for a great conversation on tech and aviation last night. Both crowded airspace and crowded spectrum face similar coordination challenges, are in the midst of modernization, and rely on each other to keep people safe and critical services running.
Great to share the stage with @AWS and @databricks. The simplest way I’ve found to explain @teamairbase is that we’re helping build air traffic control for spectrum. It was a little surreal to say that to a room full of people who run actual air traffic control.

Startups are hard. You’re the youngest team in the room, the company nobody’s heard of, and there’s always more hurdles before you can help anyone.
Last week the @SecWar pointed to @DIU_x Project Spectrum Strike in a memo as part of the Department’s solution to C-UAS spectrum approvals. @teamairbase won that DIU prize challenge in September. Saying that “I’m proud of my team” doesn’t even begin to describe the way I’m feeling right now.
I've watched this team go through a lot to get here. The level of user-obsession is unmatched. They build for regulators, for soldiers, and for commercial operators, and they keep delivering.
So yeah, I’m grateful to be able to wake up and do what I do. Now, back to work.
Thank you to the soldiers, spectrum managers, and regulators moving this effort forward. Incredibly proud to have SecWar helping accelerate this mission.
A new memo from the Secretary of War @PeteHegseth names @DIU_x Project Spectrum Strike, which Airbase won in September, as a critical accelerator for counter-drone fielding.

The @FCC has an open meeting tomorrow, and one of the discussion items is about expanding satellite spectrum. This one is very interesting to me, and you can probably guess why. 🛰️📡🚀
🧵👇
The FCC is voting to open up more than 1,000 megahertz in the 12.7 GHz and 42 GHz bands for satellite broadband. This will expand our ability to stay connected in our own homes, on airplanes, and more.
Satellites require radio frequencies to communicate to the ground. The existing frequencies that work well for that are mostly already taken. Meanwhile the number of satellites being launched keeps climbing.
Additionally, the FCC is also asking for comments on two modifications. One is to open another 1,175 megahertz in the Ku-band (12 to 18GHz) and Ka-band (25.6 to 40GHz) plus some D-band (110 to 170GHz), which is very high frequency. The other is what frequencies you'd need to control spacecraft that are servicing or assembling other spacecraft in orbit (OSAM). OSAM is still pretty small today, so it's kind of nice to see the rules getting written before it's a problem instead of after.
I don't think many people realize how much of the space economy is gated on decisions like this.
Spectrum, and spectrum coordination, will define the next decade of space innovation. Failure here will ripple across the industry, and success will greatly accelerate connectivity and innovation. Could not agree more @NASAAdmin
We’re entering a new Golden Age of space exploration, and spectrum coordination is critical to staying connected and driving innovation in all orbits.
With deep experience and steady leadership, NASA proudly supports the election of Doreen Bogdan‑Martin to another term as @ITUSecGen Jennifer Warren to the Radio Regulations Board, and the United States for re-election to the ITU Council. Together the U.S. is prepared to guide the in this exciting new era of rapid change.
Incredibly proud of the @teamairbase team on this. At Fort Carson we showed live taking a spectrum request from creation to an approval decision in minutes.
This award is just the start of something incredibly massive. More to come.
Thank you to @DIU_x and the @USArmy for running this the right way, and to @NTIAgov, @FCC, @FAANews, @DHSgov, @DoW_CIO, Army Spectrum Management and the soldiers from 4th Infantry Division and 25th Infantry Division who came out and tested it in person.
Spectrum is maneuver space, not paperwork.
DIU has named @teamairbase and @XtremisAI as the winners of Project Spectrum Strike.
Spectrum authorizations that take months just ran in minutes at Fort Carson. Modern, automated spectrum management is here.
The event was judged live by @NTIAgov, @FCC, @FAANews, @DoW_DISA, @USArmy and soldiers from 4ID and 25ID.
The bar: under five days, zero misses on safety-of-flight, real data, and real installation.
Next up: scaling this solution to end-to-end spectrum management for the Joint Force.
A century ago, experts agreed that short waves were worthless. Turned out to be some of the most valuable spectrum on the planet.
Today is National Radio Day, marking August 20, 1920, when a Detroit station called 8MK began daily news broadcasts.
8MK were only there because of a law meant to get them out of the way. The Radio Act of 1912 required licenses for the first time and handed amateurs broadcasters "200 meters and down," which sounds technical, but functionally meant "go away and stop bothering us." Back then, everyone in radio agreed the short waves were useless past a few miles.

4/ That's why this move is bigger than munitions. A 30-day range clock puts a 30-day clock on every supporting approval behind it. Compressing those timelines is exactly the kind of unglamorous infrastructure work that decides whether new systems reach the field in months or years. Awesome to see the great team at U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) spearheading this.
We're excited to see it move forward.

Huge day at the FCC today!
AMERICAN SPACE DOMINANCE 🇺🇸 🚀
“The United States sits at the dawn of a new age of space innovation.” - Chairman @BrendanCarrFCC
Today, the FCC adopts a groundbreaking overhaul of space bureau’s licensing process. 🧵⬇️
It was amazing to be in the room today when the @FCC voted to replace Part 25 with Part 100. A licensing assembly line built to take satellite approvals from years to weeks! The energy was electric. This is what spectrum modernization looks like 🚀🛰️📡
Great work by @BrendanCarrFCC, SB Chief Jay Schwarz, and the entire SB and FCC team!
