Letβs look back at this season. George has had at least THREE potential pole positions compromised by Mercedesβ decisions.
1.SΓ£o Paulo: On his second flying lap in Q3, Georgeβs S1 was already 0.448s faster than on the lap that secured him P2, but Mercedes told him to back off. The team then admitted they should have let him finish the lap.
2.Mexico City: George suggested skipping the extra preparation lap, but the team initially rejected his idea, leaving him carrying an extra lapβs worth of fuel. His final attempt proved his approach was right, and he missed pole by just 0.009s. The extra fuel could easily have made the difference.
3.Monza: Poor track positioning left George stuck in dirty air on his final Q3 run, costing him valuable time. He missed pole by just 0.060s.
Three genuine chances at pole, all compromised by questionable team decisions.

π¨ | Andrea Stella believes George Russell's abandoned Q3 lap was on pace for pole:
βGeorge caught up to Albon and couldnβt complete his second lap on intermediates.β
βUp to that point, his time was on pace for pole position, if not even faster.β
