You can never truly understand someone when you judge them by your own standards. We do it constantly. We look at someone's choices and think, "I would never do that". We measure their decisions against what we would have done in a life we've never lived with, wounds we've never carried. I think it's arrogance that makes us believe we can fully understand how another person feels. Because the truth is, you'll never really know. You didn't grow up in their home, you didn't survive what they survived, you don't hear the voice in their head or feel the weight they carry. You can have compassion. You can try to understand. But don't ever confuse that with actually knowing. The most understanding people aren't the ones who assume they get it. They're the ones humble enough to admit they never fully will.
