Blue-collar dad of 3. Licensed contractor. Turning 1/10-acre city backyard into a productive homestead (19+ raised beds so far, chickens, rabbits, bees).
I just added several new garden plots to my backyard. The land is sloped here so I trenched in free logs to hold the soil, rainwater, and nutrients, aka โterracingโ. My goal for next year is to grow 80% of my familyโs food on a regular city lot.
My first โMater Sandwichโ. Made with thick slices of fresh, ripe garden tomatoes that I grew myself, a generous smear of mayonnaise, salt, and black pepper!!
Even if you only have concrete or a balcony, you can still grow your own food and herbs. Iโm growing rosemary, lavender, and mint in pots. The smells and flavors are worth it!!
If youโre ever in an emergency situation or down on your luck, you can eat theseโฆ leaves, flowers, roots and all. They are actually very good for you.
