I cannot understand why people are feting Karl Bushby as some kind of hero.
He deserted his 8yr old son for decades to go off on a selfish and utterly pointless adventure. He didn't even raise money for charity.
Just imagine what everyone would be saying about a mum who did the same thing.
After 28 years, 30 countries and more than 30,000 miles on foot, Karl Bushby has completed his epic odyssey around the world, returning home to Hull, England. Bushby says the kindness of strangers and the human spirit carried him through the challenges of his journey, which began when he was 29. Now, he tells CBS News' @RamyInocencio that he hopes his story inspires others to dream bigger and push themselves to do more.

Trying to understand why a man who abandoned his 5 year old son to go walking is given a heroβs welcome home.
Youβre on a planet where octopuses have three hearts, trees communicate through fungal networks, birds migrate across continents, coral reefs teem with life, and tiny bees help feed the world. Donβt forget to stop and appreciate how beautiful the Earth is.

I enjoy that it gets dark earlier
The pressure to always be doing something subsides. Relaxing in front of the fire feels cozy. Warm, hearty meals inside are satisfying. There is a charm to the cold mixed with the dark.
This βdarkβ period allows us to appreciate the spring and summer more
Quit complaining and lean in folks

I work in aviation so this morning I got to sit around with a bunch of pilots and discuss this horrible situation and I found it so interesting that none of the pilots thought the gender or race of the pilots were a factor at all but a bunch of fucking idiots on here do.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman shared his personal thoughts on the Lear Jet Crash. I think this was very well said and its honestly a breath of fresh air to see some clear headed thinking like this.
Writing this in my personal capacity, but I have been flying these types of aircraft for more than 20 years, with over 8,000 hours, and have reasonable familiarity with how the charter world operates. I feel compelled to post after seeing commentary about the Lear 60 crash, from missile strikes to DEI to critiquing this poor womanβs final radio calls.
That last part is what I find most troubling. She was the second-in-command (SIC), and while she was empowered to point out mistakes as part of good crew resource management, she was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation. She likely knew before many of those calls that she was going to die. I have heard final calls from friends, from military pilots with thousands of hours in fighter aircraft, and they are just as heartbreaking because they know the end is approaching.
I understand the public interest given the footage and audio. But you do not know the aircraftβs maintenance history, whether there was a structural failure, if any failure was induced by turbulence, overspeed, or overcontrol, or everything happening in that cockpit. I am sure weather will be part of the investigation, but beyond that, it is speculation. The charter industry routinely hires commercial pilots very early in their careers to gain experience alongside an ATP-qualified captain before they move up to the airlines. She would still have the appropriate training, qualifications, and checkouts by an FAA examiner or designee.
Let people investigate, learn, and share the facts. Be respectful to those who perished and the families who carry their memories. God bless them and their loved ones.
