So glad @Telegraph are coming at this bill from every angle. I hadn’t considered the impact on detransitioners - that simply sharing their experiences will be criminalised. She’s been attacked endlessly- now it’ll be criminal charges. @JournalistJill excellent stuff. ‘I regretted my gender change. Funny how so many righteous men who didn't see Brand as a walking red flag a decade ago still managed to be highly sensitive to all the 'dogwhistle hate' in the feminist speech of the time

The City of London is not being "inclusive" in its policy on bathing ponds at Hempstead Heath. On the contrary, it's being exclusive. It is excluding women from having a bathing pond without males.

Stonewall's grubby finger prints are all over the tyrannical conversion bill. The fact they still enjoy government access despite consistently misrepresenting the law and pushing for mad gender nonsense is frankly appalling. telegraph.co.uk/gift/8acf1db…

Woman of the Day Anne Vaux (1562-1637) of Leicester, cousin of Robert Catesby and the only woman arrested in connection with the Gunpowder Plot foiled OTD in 1605. She played no direct part but she provided safehouses for priests, saving five of them on one occasion, and was arrested on the basis of her barely legible handwriting. Here comes the history bit. On this day in 1605, Guy Fawkes of York was discovered guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder, camouflaged with coal, in the cellar under Parliament. They would have reduced the House of Lords to rubble and signalled the start of a revolt in the Midlands. English Catholics had hoped for greater religious tolerance under the reign of James I. Memories of the beheadings and burnings at the stake of Catholics during Elizabeth’s reign, following Mary’s persecution of Protestants during her monarchy, had split the nation. They were doomed to disappointment. James I was relentless in his persecution of Catholics, equating them with witches. Authorities learned of the plot through an anonymous letter sent to the Catholic Lord Monteagle warning him to avoid Parliament on 5 November 1605. Monteagle handed it to Robert Cecil, Lord Privy Seal and Elizabeth’s spymaster. Two searches were carried out of the vaults below the Parliament chamber. The first one noted large piles of wood and coal belonging to Thomas Percy and the second revealed Guy Fawkes with matches and fuses. He was arrested. His co-conspirators including Robert Catesby fled from London on hearing of his arrest but he was put on the rack and tortured until he gave them up. Catesby was shot dead. Eight others, including Guy Fawkes, were hung, drawn and quartered. The principal Jesuit of England, Father Garnet, was convicted of treason and sentenced to death although it was doubtful how much he knew, if anything. In any case, he was bound by the absolute confidentiality of the confessional. These days, a priest may speak indirectly when it is vital to warn someone - for example, "I've heard the confession of a murderer” - but that is all. Anne was suspected of writing that anonymous letter but in fact, she tried to stop the Plot. After a visit to a holy well in North Wales where she had an uneasy conversation with the wife of one of the conspirators, she told Father Garnet she feared that, “Wild heads have something in hand”and “For God’s sake, talk to Robin Catesby and to hinder anything that possibly he might.” However, she told him in the confessional box. Father Garnet was hanged, drawn and quartered (a particularly brutal and long-drawn-out death) in January 1607 solely for having advanced knowledge of the Plot but refusing to to violate the Seal of the Confessional. First, though, he was held in the Tower of London from 27 January 1606 until he was executed in May 1606 and that’s how the connection to Anne Vaux became apparent. His letters were being monitored. Anne had written hidden messages in orange juice to him. They were difficult to read — Father Garnet found them illegible — but there were "perceived similarities" between her handwriting and that anonymous letter and it was enough to alert the authorities. She’d already come to their attention for other reasons. Anne was unmarried by choice — an outrage to social convention — and a wealthy Catholic recusant to boot. She and her sister provided safe houses for Catholic priests by renting properties elsewhere. She also gave sanctuary to Father Garnet in her own home. She was arrested at home in March 1606. Feigning the indignation of an affronted lady — how dare you be so rude as to raid my home before any of my household are out of bed! — she made such a scene that it gave the five Catholic priests already hiding in the house time to hide. Taken to the Tower of London, Anne laughed out loud at an accusation of impropriety with Father Garnet and retorted, “You come to me with this child's play and impertinence, a sign that you have nothing of importance with which to charge me." She languished in the Tower until August 1606 and maintained that she was innocent of treason but admitted to receiving the conspirators at her home. Well, she was related to some of them. What else might a hospitable lady have done? Anne died in or after 1637, aged 75. Oh, and she carried on aiding Catholic priests until her death. Well, she was a recusant after all, someone who refuses to submit to an authority or to comply with an oppressive and disproportionate regime on grounds of belief. That’d be a few of us these days. To this day the Yeoman of the Guard, dressed in their Elizabethan uniforms, still carry out a ceremonial search under the Houses of Parliament before the State Opening.

6/ The draft Bill is as watertight as a colander. The @LabourList article above fails to engage substantively with criticisms of the Bill, but it’s also deliberately blind to the context into which it’s being hurled like a hand grenade. It’s not just bad law. It’s irresponsible.

5/ If the law allows transactivists to go to the police about “serious alarm or distress” caused by undefined & inadvertent “abuse”, they will do so at the drop of a hat. Any law in this area has to be watertight. If we haven’t learnt that, we haven’t learnt anything.>

2/ It’s totally unlawful to exclude Jewish people from cafés. It’s entirely lawful to exclude trans-ID men from women’s spaces. Plus there’s a mixed pond. But that’s not good enough. Anything short of everyone else pretending those men are women is on a par with outright racism.>

For an idea of what transactivists consider to be “harmful”, consider that today in the High Court counsel for the City of London Corporation said that excluding men who identify as women from a women’s swimming pond was as “humiliating” as excluding Jewish people from a café.>

I don't want to shame any particular woman here, but publicly announcing that the #RussellBrand conviction must be wrong because you went home with him and he didn't rape you makes about as much sense as saying 'well, I left 25 Cromwell Street alive, so Fred West's innocent.'

An observation from Election Day; The last way people can help with the campaign before the polls close, is to come hold signs outside of them as people walk in. Last night, I realized overwhelming majority of the people who showed up to hold a sign for me were women. Strong, intelligent, and powerful women. This was the re-election for a legislator. And a small battle in the war to stand up to the effort to destroy equal rights; and we won. Eventually, I will have the time to write about the Shakespearean level of drama found in this election; but for now I simply want to acknowledge those women. Who never wavered in the face of extraordinary vitriol from fellow women they once considered allies, public ridicule from people with influence, and men who aggressively fight for entry into female spaces. They stood firm. Walking through hurricane force winds as easy as if it were a sunny summer day. They refused to be gaslit into believing that protecting equal rights for all under the law, or standing up to harm caused by big pharma, meant that they held hatred in their heart for anyone. They refused to cower to the toxic positivity of the modern world. They stood for true love, actual justice, and everyone’s right to equal rights under the law. Which inherently includes sex based rights. We seem to exist in a brave new world wherein people are embracing the coming dystopia; and the dystopian propaganda that follows. Those who see through it often feel as though they’re the only one. Many of us silently watch the world politely accept a double speak that threatens the very integrity of civilization. I’m here to say we’re not alone. I will never forget the courage of the women who stood with me throughout this election, and at the polls on Tuesday. I exist because of the strength of the women who raised me. One day I’ll write a more eloquent narrative about all this but for now let me end by saying; Thank you.

I have to say I'm increasingly of the view the government doesn't understand its own conversion bill. Clause 5 unambiguously extends corporate liability to all companies. The government thinks it only applies to "companies that provide conversion therapy" This is nuts.
1/ Good to see the Telegraph really on top of the conversion bill generally and the extraordinarily wide corporate liability issues it raises. For more on this issue, Me and Tanya de Grunwald spoke about it on her show, link below: telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/11…

I think we may need to disband the party system until they can prove to us they aren't actively selecting for people who are unable to understand what it means to make a law. That, or make new legislators sit an exam on the basic principles, before they can take a seat.

Judging by the tone-deaf government statement here, the pushback against the conversion practices bill has caught them by surprise. I wonder how long it will take for No 10 to register that continuing to repeat debunked lines about how ordinary parents aren't at risk of criminalisation simply won't cut it?
A proposed law banning conversion practices could put parents at risk of prosecution for questioning their children about their gender identity, MPs, peers and experts have warned. The legislation would introduce prison sentences of up to five years for attempts to suppress or change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. @Daniel_J_Martin, @haylesdixon, and Tim Sigsworth examine the growing calls for the Bill to be scrapped ⬇️ telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

This is funny because I used to go to the Ladies' pond around 25 yrs ago and if anyone male was spotted by the terrifying woman in charge she would shout at him through a megaphone. And that included toddlers.
Dan Stillitz for the City of London just said in court that if the City has to provide the women and men's ponds as single sex ponds the likely upshot is that it won't provide separate sex ponds at all.
