Tucked into a forgotten & quiet corner booth with a mug of tea in the noisiest pub in the world. Likes to look at art. (a.k.a. @streamgazer, once upon a time.)

Looking at phones during a meal instead of interacting or having simple companionable silence deeply disturbs me. Very holllow

we understand ourselves through media. it's not an accident the right is flooded with harry potter and star wars memes. we make videos of ourselves crying on our cars because that's how we process emotions: by looking back at ourselves, on the medium we're most comfortable with, the screen. we understand everything through the screen. the screen may as well be our eyes; our brain. we are aegosexuals, voyeurs, and gooners because we are perpetual viewers. we are all in the audience, even performers. the right isn't "suddenly" becoming fandomized, our culture is fandom, our culture is media, our culture is entertainment. everything is fandom is an entertainment empire. want to talk about the "end of literacy"? fandom is how you engage with a text beyond analysis, through emotion, sociality, love, worship.

In Tasmania there is a seal called "Neil the Seal" who periodically comes on to land and starts destroying public infrastructure for no reason at all He has caused upwards of $25,000 in damages by destroying various signs and fences
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The attached image is AI-generated and does not show real events, as authorities use padded poles and boards (not forklifts) to move Neil. Property damage from signs/fences has been minor (~$1,300 materials in one visit) amid higher management costs. pulsetasmania.com.au/news/neil-the-โ€ฆ pulsetasmania.com.au/news/neil-the-โ€ฆ abc.net.au/news/2026-07-3โ€ฆ

In this abbey in France, nuns have been restoring old books for over 70 years. The Benedictine sisters of Maumont Abbey run a full workshop and their craft is bookbinding, gilding and restoration. Centuries-old books arrive damaged, torn and crumbling, and they restore them all by hand to last another hundred years.

go on your little frivolously curious outings

Baby camels are born without humps. The fat stores grow later. Newborns can weigh over 80 pounds, stand within hours, and hum to their moms. Fluffy first, desert later.
