Maybe that's the intension; push able customers out of the national grid so that eskom book value drops substantially and then hand over assets to private interests like it happened with SAA, Transnet, Denel etc

I want to share with you what I shared with my peers on a platform made up exclusively of engineers.
Let me put it this way: Eskom’s own tariff filing projects flat Standard-tariff sales in FY2027 while revenue rises by R30.9 billion. Price therefore carries the entire increase. Every rand of that additional R30.9 billion comes from higher prices, not higher volumes: households, farms, mines and factories are not buying more electricity. A utility that recovers every new rand from the same kilowatt-hours is pushing out customers who can pay while trapping those who cannot.
Now consider LNG. Even at €28/MWh (≈ $9.2/MMBtu)—which excludes shipping, regasification, capacity charges and the efficiency penalty of mid-merit cycling—you are adding R31 billion a year to costs, a cost currently not included in MYPD6.
I put it to you that:
The day South Africa adopts LNG-to-power, there will be a mass exodus from the national grid, because cheaper alternatives to grid power exist.
The only people left reliant on the grid will be the indigent and the missing middle. Everyone else will choose cheaper alternatives.
It looks less like a single incompetent mistake and more like a system that rewards price recovery while ignoring customer exit — which is arguably worse.
In academic literature, this is called a utility death spiral

SAPS, SSA and SANDF must cook more training & recruitment for cyber security people
Take the youth and train them, put them on 360 degree contracts 😭😭 and they protect our infrastructure 🙏🏿

South Africa's national security is in tatters, Pretoria is a capital city so it's very clear that daily toxicology reports are not part of routine management.
To make it worse, country opens doors for military aged men to enter the country as they please with unknown intentions

Imagine if every political party competed to appoint the best engineers instead of the best-connected cadres. South Africa would look very different. #EngineeringVote #CityEngineers #EngineerGeneral

Independent economist Duma Gqubule questions why South Africa alone is failing to grow its economy and create jobs while other developing countries average an annual GDP growth of over 4%. He says the National Treasury and the SA Reserve Bank don't care about job creation.

The #LGE2026 election should not be about personalities. It should be about who can keep the water flowing, the lights on, and the roads maintained. #EngineeringVote

408 cases of gastrointestinal illness. Most of them children under four.
Here is what happened.
The Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works stopped chlorinating water on 24 September. It kept chlorinating again on 14 October. Three weeks. Twenty-one days.
The reason: a dispute with a chlorine supplier that raised prices. The plant ran out. Nobody ordered more. Nobody told city leadership. Nobody warned residents.
The water coming into the plant was already bad. Drawn from the Bronkhorstspruit River, which carries sewage from Victor Khanye Municipality's broken wastewater works and Tshwane's own failing pump stations. So you have contaminated source water. Unchlorinated. Going directly into homes.
E. coli through the roof. Norovirus. Campylobacter. Shigella. All of them in stool samples. No cholera. That is the only good news.
Cases peaked 13 October at 72 in a single day. Dropped to 16 by the 18th. Chlorine came back. The outbreak slowed.
Mayor Nasiphi Moya accepted responsibility. The supplier raised prices. Plant officials did not escalate. Leadership was not informed.
But think about what this actually reveals.
A major metro one of the largest cities in the country can run without chlorine for three weeks without the mayor knowing. Not three days. Three weeks.
The 2025 Compulsory Standards for Water Services require immediate public notification when water quality is compromised. That did not happen. Parents were bathing babies. Cooking with it. Drinking it. For weeks.
This is not a supplier problem. This is a chain-of-command problem.
If plant operators cannot get chlorine replaced within 48 hours, the system has already failed. The supplier dispute is just the trigger. The failure was built in.
Upstream sewage going untreated - known. Plant resilience dependent on a single vendor - known. Communication lines between operations and political leadership broken.
Victor Khanye's wastewater treatment works have been dysfunctional for years. Tshwane's sewage pump stations have been flagged repeatedly. These are not new problems. They are old problems that only become visible when children end up in hospital beds.
The cases are down now. Chlorine is back. The mayor has taken responsibility.
But the same conditions exist in dozens of municipalities across this country. Different names. Same broken chain.
The question is not whether it will happen again. It is where.
More than 400 cases of gastrointestinal illnesses have been reported in the east of Pretoria, mostly affecting young children. Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya says officials at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works failed to report the chlorine problem to the City, and they failed to alert residents that the water had not been chlorinated. 🚨 Who is supposed to stop a malfunctioning water treatment plant before communities are forced to drink contaminated water?
🔘 Mayor
🔘 MMC
🔘 City Manager
🔘 City Engineer / Technical Services Manager
🔘 Plant Manager
How true is this in SA?

High-value skills from the second part include advanced software engineering (scalable systems or AI/ML models), cybersecurity, cloud architecture, specialized data engineering for critical ops, and niche technical consulting. These have high barriers, fewer competitors, and mistakes that can cost businesses hundreds of thousands rather than a few hundred.

Smirking & grinning from ear to ear, President Cyril Ramaphosa says the ~R10.53/litre we pay over to ANC+DA-led government—through a general fuel levy, RAF levy, Carbon Fuel Levy, Customs & Excise, & VAT for each R30.25/litre of 95 octane petrol, is driven by “global factors”.
