Struggling to create depth in the swing or can’t get on plane early with FBs? Try out the Kershaw drill with an open stride This will force the hitter to back up their point of contact and challenge their ability to get on plane at the back of the swing zone @CamFoster1

yep, we use the med balls with handles (1/2/4 lbs) and the plyo balls like this. works really well for improving bat speed through lead arm strength if you dont have a proteus. radar them & works really well.

I recently completed my dream internship as a hitting trainer at Driveline Baseball. During my time at Driveline, I learned countless lessons about the science and art of coaching. Here are the 5 most important ones: 🧵👇

Hittrax not measuring spin is such an easy limitation to work around. Here’s an example of how a productive rep in the cage might go: Take a swing, see your ball flight. “Decent ball, but feels like I top spun it a little” Check hittrax: “nice, 100 at 13” Check blast: *attack angle 19* Check Hittrax again: *point of contact 17”* “Okay, my attack angle was a bit higher than my launch angle, confirming my thought that I top spun it. Probably because my point of contact was a bit too far out front. But my exit velo was solid, and that’s a good line drive. Decent miss. Let’s hit another 100+ line drive but with true spin next swing. I’ll try to do that by backing up my point of contact”
It’s the archer, not the arrow. HitTrax is awesome. And just like everything else, it has limitations. But the value it provides greatly outweighs the lack of batted ball spin (Believe me I wish it had it) If you don’t like it, don’t use it. Pretty simple. But to say it isn’t an insanely useful tool in the player development space is flat out ignorant.

Spent some time at Driveline today getting to know Bend, Oregon outfielder Slater de Brun. Big personality. Kid has packed on muscle this winter. Working to more consistently create more backspin. Vanderbilt commit.

Pelvis/Lead Leg has to clear to maintain “slot”, speed, & direction. Too many hitting coaches don’t teach that clearing the lead hip leads to a deep/connected bat path. The deeper dive is in the how setup & rhythm during loading sequence impacts ability to clear & stabilize the swing.
The Pelvis and Deep Core escort the arms!

In 2020, @talking_hitting & I applied a competitive system in Extended & FCL (20 weeks) -Separated Teams, tracked stats/metrics, had a running scoreboard. Key takeaways: -Value it? Train, track, post, compete, reward!🏆 -Development can thrives when it happens organically!💰

Home Run Derby courtesy of your resident college guys. 10 swings total. Swing 9 & 10 count for 2. Using a long bat on swing 9 & 10 is a bonus point. @Jake_Kulikowski @CarlsonGunnett @NesslerAJ

This force plate skelly vizzie is one of my favorite pieces of information we get from our hitting assessment process @DrivelineBB There is so much value in hitting force plate data through phases of the swing ➡️Magnitude: How much force is being produced ➡️Direction: Where energy is going ➡️Timing: When peak forces are happening ➡️Balance: Management of the athletes center of mass relative to the implement and the ground How you use the ground plays a big role in your swing mechanics, your bat path and ultimately your ball flight
