Notice small glimmers in your day: The feeling of the sun on your face, that nice feeling when your favorite song comes on the radio. A gentle touch. Feel the feelings in your body. Savor them like they are a delicious meal. The more you flex this muscle, the more it will grow.

May you find your moment of joy today, even if it co-exists with pain. XO, Dr. Jen

You can do everything right and still become disabled. You can eat right, exercise, take vitamins, get sun, and still become disabled. No one is immune to disability. We’re all vulnerable. The sooner you acknowledge that, the sooner you’ll realize accessibility benefits everyone.

Just like nature, we don’t bloom all at once—and that’s okay. Be gentle with yourself this season. 🌱 #MentalHealthMonday

The #healthcare system does not adequately address the family dynamic of the patient.  How well the patient is supported at home directly impacts the health of the patient. Let's change the conversation that medical care professionals are having with the #caregiver.

If you want to support a caregiver, take something off their plate. Anything!  💢 Send over dinner. 💢 Pick up groceries. 💢 Cut the grass. 💢 Pick the kiddos up from school. 💢 Wash the dishes. One less thing to do is a really BIG deal to a #caregiver.

and service coordinators and pushed when you needed to push. You ignored your own exhaustion to give the best care to your loved one. You watched miracles happen and created your own miracles. You may not feel it but you made a difference this year and that is success! 🙌 2/2

Caregivers: It may have been a rough year and you probably still have items left undone on your to-do list but you made it! You managed appointments, illness, hospitalizations, moodiness, ups and downs, meal prep and medication organization. You researched, talked with docs 1/2

You will experience a range of emotions during a traumatic #caregiving event. All are normal and okay. Ignore anyone dismissing your feelings.

Feeling behind in an area of your life because you had to focus on survival and/or healing is not something to be ashamed of. It’s something to be proud of. That was wise. It was a sacrifice. I hope you feel bold in the ways you take up space exactly as you are.

Ppl w/serious mental illness face extreme social & economic isolation, causing excess unemployment, homelessness, and mortality. It should bring shame to a nation as wealthy as ours. Luckily @fountainhouse is there to help individuals and @thecarehack to help families.

Reminder as we head into July: #SSRIs & psychotropic meds can trigger heat exhaustion. Those on certain meds are more vulnerable to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, as heat tolerance is affected by these meds. This includes SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAS, and some antipsychotic medications. – at Manhattan, NY

If you need to get your loved one out the door to be someplace at a certain time, allow a lot of extra time. Make sure to get yourself ready first because it takes a lot of patience to help somebody else get ready. #appointments

A study at UPenn found that participants running on 4.5 hours of sleep nightly felt angrier, more stressed, & mentally exhausted. Once their sleep returned to normal, so did their mood. Sleep drastically affects your health. Get those zzz’s. #mentalhealth #stressrelief #sleep

When your identity is too wrapped up in your performance, this can lead to challenges like #anxiety and fear of failure. Remember: your worth as a human being is determined first and foremost by your values and how you treat others. . . . #identity #selfworth #Motivation – at Midtown, Manhattan

Take your loved one's vitals daily and keep a log. This gives you a baseline and can be an indication of when something is off or brewing. It is great info for the doctor too if you need to call them. #caregiving #vitals

Resolutions are not a requirement of New Years. Sometimes they just add to your already extensive to-do list and who needs that?! #caregiving #happynewyear #myresolutionistonothavearesolution
