Out now, my co-edited Special Issue on the Muslim Manosphere. Building on our first academic intervention in 2022, the excellent contributions in this issue expand the examination of the rise (& fall) of Muslim male influencers or crisis actors as a symptom of a deeper malaise.

Thank you to the contributors of this Issue whose intellectual labour produced important scholarship that I think dismantles the banal defence of 'tradition', exposing new fronts of Islamophobia & the dangers facing Muslims in misdiagnosing the culture wars.

So, support for Palestine among PhD cohorts is antisemitic, a symptom of an investment in the ideologue and the “socially dysfunctional”. Got it 🫠
As the prospects of getting a tenure-track job shrink, the prestige of academia declines, and working conditions worsen, PhD cohorts in the humanities skew more and more towards ideologues, the socially dysfunctional, and the otherwise unhireable.

Hosseini not only carefully sifted through Afghan realities to apply a cultural lens on Afghan pain but also stole it to sell war and occupation. The Bush administration paraded him around for this very reason.
I grew up reading Khaled Hosseini's books, and at times I cried over Maryam and Laila, and Amir and Hassan. But everything has changed since I realised he's America's favourite Afghan.

High schools in North America to Australia were sites of propaganda by assigning books like Kite Runner, I Am Malala, Reading Lolita in Tehran etc to students which became the only insight into the lives of people in the region. The rationale for why war.

True. It’s been disturbing watching Mehdi and Owen turn debate into an aim in itself. Nothing to be resolved just endless returns to the same talking points. It’s a spectacle of discourse. Their careers rely on it.
As someone who also “debated” this piece of shit about Israeli forces sexually abusing my comrades and beating the shit out of us, shooting us, and tasing us—what’s there to debate?—it’s ridiculously stupid to believe in any way that this kind of perversity matters,

“non-Arab” category is so broad here it’s kind of a useless reference.
I ask everybody I run into (Arab or non-Arab) the same question: how do you think Sinwar will be remembered (as far as Palestine is concerned) 50 years from now? Answers are far from uniform, especially among non-Arabs.

My newest article, "Unifying (and Dividing) the Believers: The Sectarian Governance of Muslims in the People's Republic of China" is out (open access). Its part of a special issue I coedited on rethinking sectarianism in the study of Chinese Islam: brill.com/view/journals/jesh…

If you liked I Saw the Devil, start with these three. 1. Revenge (2017, France): Your thirst for revenge will cost you everything you once were 2. The Golden Glove (2019, Germany): One man's obsessive hunt for a killer hollows him out completely 3. Creepy (2016, Japan): Chasing a psychopath, you lose sight of who you used to be

I don’t think leftists should “fully” support Islamists just as I don’t think Islamists should do the same. But this is also working with a binary that what constitutes Islamism is outside the domain of leftist politics and vice versa.
Today I listened to a panel of academics debate the question of why western leftists hesitate to fully support islamist political organizations without ever considering the problem that western leftists and islamists have some substantially different normative opinions abt things

Afghanistan also has a fascist problem. See below.
My Afghanistan strategy is very simple. It must be obvious to anyone who has followed me for a while. It rests on 10 major principles: 1) Unrepentant, Pragmatic Hawkism 2) Purging the Ideologically-compromised within 🇵🇰 3) Debunking false 🇦🇫 history at scale 4) Balkanization of Afghanistan 5) An Autonomous Herat region 6) Use Afghans to fight Afghans 7) Bring back Hazara & Uzbek militias 8) Quid-pro-quo-plus tactical doctrines 9) Sub-tactical operational freedom 10) Massive socioecon investment in ex-FATA

Majority Report is a garbage show staffed by smug liberals who condescend and lie to their audience. Stop watching this garbage. Also, who is the off-camera shy guy calling a viewer an "idiot" and to "fuck off" because they expressed a view that hurt his feelings?

Usual suspects of horror.
This is f*cking hilarious, and the ending is a masterpiece. The cops counted 5 suspects. You'll spot the 6th in the last few seconds.

The wife of prominent Sydney Rabbi Yossi Friedman comments that say “No innocent people in Gaza and don't care at all what happens to any of them”. This is Zionism, it is a racist and genocidal ideology!
