I was once whingeing to Paul McCartney that I'll always be known primarily for the Wombles. Straight-faced, without irony, he said, "Yeah, I have the same problem with The Beatles".

that's still not british style
british style is wearing slightly ugly clothes that fit perfectly while pouring a pint into an ashtray for your dog at the pub

I am heartbroken to share the news of Dave Sanborn’s passing, the remarkable alto saxophonist whose music always makes me smile.
Dave wasn’t just an outstanding musician; he was a great friend. Born just one day apart in 1945, we shared countless memories filled with music and laughter over the years.
I had the honor of playing with him on Bowie’s Young Americans album and throughout 1974 on the Diamond Dogs and Soul Tours. Dave’s playing had a sound unlike any other, with a distinct personality shining through every note on tracks like “Young Americans,” “Win,” and “Sweet Thing / Candidate.”
Dave’s passion for music was relentless. After shows, during bus rides, and on flights together, he was always eager to learn new advanced jazz lines and harmonies. His humility in those moments left a lasting impression on me.
Dave, your legacy will live on but will truly be missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

there's something gluttonous about the cruelty, isn't there. never sated, always wanting more, some bottomless pit, some yawning vacancy in these bastards that they can only fill with cruelty. wanton boys thinking they're gods.

BOWIE MEETS PETE AND DUD 50 YEARS AGO TONIGHT
“They pulled in just behind the fridge...” *
This image of an amused David Bowie was taken fifty years ago this evening, when he met up with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore following the duo's Behind The Fridge presentation at London’s Cambridge Theatre on 9th May, 1973.
Bowie was a big fan of the pair and had been for some time, years later he would slip into character with Brian Eno on occasion, as remembered by Brian on David’s passing in 2016: “David’s death came as a complete surprise, as did nearly everything else about him. I feel a huge gap now. We knew each other for over 40 years, in a friendship that was always tinged by echoes of Pete and Dud.”
In 1971 David had asked Moore if he would play piano on Hunky Dory, it wasn’t to be. However, Bowie managed to sneak the title of the Pete and Dud show into the lyric of Young Americans, as quoted above.
Oh, to have been a fly on the wall during that backstage meeting. Captions suggesting just what Mr Cook had uttered to make Bowie smile so, are encouraged in the comments section.
* The lyric really is fridge, not, as is often misheard, bridge. This fact was confirmed by Bowie himself.
