On 2 October 2026, we brought young African sex workers together for an open conversation about our sexual and reproductive health and rights.
We spoke about the challenges we face in accessing healthcare, the need for more information and choices around contraception and HIV prevention, stigma, discrimination, Criminalisation of sex work and being left out of decisions about our own health.
We don't just want to be present. We want our voices heard and our opinions to matter.
Our voices must be part of shaping the services, programmes and policies that affect our lives.
The conversation doesn't end here. What we shared and learnt must lead to action.

We choose NOT to stay silent in the face of an injustice!
Today we join womenโs rights organizations and allies to demand the immediate release of Rose Tumusiime or her prompt presentation before court. Justice must be based on evidence, not stigma or discrimination. Women deserve dignity, due process and equal protection under the law. โ๐ฝ

Universal health coverage is often pictured as an umbrella large enough for everyone. But having an umbrella doesnโt always mean everyone can access its protection.
For key populations, stigma, criminalisation, stock-outs, and transport costs can still create barriers to essential health services.
Universal health coverage should be more than coverage on paper. An umbrella only delivers on its promise when it protects everyone under it.

Funding cuts do more than reduce budgets. They weaken the systems communities rely on to stay healthy, safe and protected.
For key populations, every funding gap can mean fewer prevention services, disrupted care, reduced community outreach and greater vulnerability. Protecting these investments is not only about sustaining programmes. It is about protecting people and safeguarding hard-won progress in the HIV response.

With the theme โLight the Legacy: Remember. Advance. Act,โ our team marked Post-Candlelight Day in Hoima District today. We were deeply moved by stories of strength from bereaved families, by the courage of people living with HIV sharing their journeys, and by our community leaders (both from gender expansive community and sex work community). driving the fight against stigma and discrimination.
