I was expecting Israel to be a little America—mostly English-speaking, a land full of convenience.
What I found was distinctly Middle Eastern—the people are brash, speak with their hands, and often don't know a lick of English. There are stray cats everywhere, mopeds, and graffiti. The street signs are in Hebrew, English, and Arabic. There is a mosque on prime beachfront property in Tel Aviv.
There is every kind of citizen imaginable. I saw Ethiopian Jews serving in the IDF. While touring an ancient Jewish site, I ran into a group of Arab schoolchildren also there to learn. I met a Mizrahi cab driver whose parents fled Morocco in the 50s.
Douglas Murray famously made Americans irate when he flamed Dave Smith on an episode of Joe Rogan for having never traveled to Israel—but he’s right. Visiting Israel shows you just how wrong the west is about the Jewish state.

I’ve heard housework called “invisible work” because if done one doesn’t see it. The same with charities and policies that seek to prevent harm. There are no headlines for a home that didn’t wash away, but building the dam is a greater blessing than rebuilding a home.

🧵Great post & replies. I would’ve picked The New Braunfels High Unicorns 🦄 over the Hippos but Hippos are cool. I don’t know why more schools don’t use hippos & rhinos as mascots. What a great, tough & nasty mascot perfect for football a rhino would be.
The Horsemen of Sleepy Hollow High in New York are the most badass & perfect for its location. I’ve seen video of the Headless Horseman leading the team out & it’s great.
My Dad’s old high school in St. Louis (closed since 1971) was a Catholic all-men’s school run by the archdiocese named McBride. Their mascot: The Micks or “Fighting Micks”
School Colors: Green, Orange & White. Mascot: A leprechaun smoking a pipe & holding a shillelagh or billy club with a giant shamrock on their coat ☘️
