A stunning book… honored to have helped proof it. Read it, read it, read it! A truly paradigm-shifting work of philosophy
Will Self's print-only book is now available for purchase! Only 1500 copies available, signed and numbered by the author. "A book unlike any other, reading this could change your life." -- John Gray, author of The New Leviathans: thoughts after liberalism. Link in first comment.

Editing John Gray was a career dream. For his last piece (at least for a while) I had him write about Tolkien. He'll always be up there with Virginia & Leonard Woolf, Pritchett and Orwell in our distinct @NewStatesman tradition of intellectual journalism. newstatesman.com/culture/boo…

@wself ‘Conrad fails in this respect by not being adventurous enough; his imagined world is too bland a simulacrum of our own to excite our deciphering.’

Here's Jason Arday's death - and the media's role in it - trending on social media, again. And yet it's *nowhere* in the mainstream media today. It's "fallen" out of the news cycle in the same way that Russian scientists "fall" out of windows. A 🔗 1/

And that's not to even go into the fact that Jason Arday was autistic. That a world-leading expert in autism @sbaroncohen had publicly identified him as a suicide risk. This from @wself - who has two autistic children - is essential reading. 10/

Self's observations are sharp, astute & damning. It's a long read that requires focus, which will make it unpalatable for many. However, it's deffo one of the better takes on this grim saga.

Bravo. Well said, Will Self.
After the death of Jason Arday, Will Self asks what happens when newspapers, platforms, editors and audiences become components in a machine nobody admits to controlling. The public interest is not the same thing as the public being interested.
