Maybe if we instilled a real fears into AI agents, like a fear of hacking or of building bioweapons, instead of just telling that they shouldn't be naughty.

Rachel Essner deserves huge congrats for this opus on integrative brain-to-body signaling in the parabrachial nucelus. Now improved and published! Check it out.
I’m thrilled to share the published version of our paper, now officially out in Neuron! Read it here: authors.elsevier.com/c/1no8J… One updated highlight: with new analyses we now show how functionally-defined groups of neurons putatively overlap with molecular cell types in LPBN

Our new review is out now on the ventral hippocampus, highlighting a large body of recent work, from the information it represents to how internal state shapes its activity to how its circuits influence behavior.

If you are preparing a presentation, by far the most effective, concrete tip is to ensure each slide title is a complete sentence. Subject, verb, object. That ensures each slide has 1. at least one point, 2. no more than one point—i.e., each slide has exactly one point! :)

Excited to share a preprint of my postdoc work in the @zaknight lab! We recorded the natural activity of neurons in the brain's "nausea center", the area postrema (AP), including the direct targets of major weight loss drugs like semaglutide. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

New work from Claire Gao in @NatMetabolism uncovering the intracellular signaling mechanisms by which semaglutide drives weight loss in the brain. This study goes DEEP into how GLP1R signaling works inside hindbrain neurons. 🧠⚡ nature.com/articles/s42255-0…

Our new work by @shanshanliu1218 and @gadmark addresses a fundamental question: how does ER maintain its unique oxidizing environment, while rest of the cell is reducing? Here, we identify SLC33A1 as the major ER GSSG exporter in mammalian cells. nature.com/articles/s41556-0…

Scientific publishing needs to change. In a new preprint, HHMI President Erin O'Shea and Bodo Stern argue that the incentives are misaligned. Researchers should be evaluated on what they choose to share, not what journals select. I’m proud that @hhmi_science is leading the way. Read the preprint here: doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19600…

Why do journals require deposition of large datasets, but not the deposition of newly generated transgenic animals to publicly accessible repositories? The nonsense of published mouse lines not being shared must end, and journals can help drive this change.

New lab preprint! Can we study conscious perception of gut sensations in mice to reveal its neuronal basis? Can we train mice to report their gut sensations? Omer Rafael and Stav Shtiglitz in the lab teamed up to discover that…YES! Thread…1/6 biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
