SECRETARY RUBIO: For twenty-five centuries since, the Parthenon has stood. Empires have risen and fallen beneath its shadow.
And the progeny of the men who built it – the sons of Athens and Rome – have carried their civilization with them to the ends of the Earth.
Two and a half centuries after the founding of the American republic halfway across the world from where I stand now, I stand here today – as the Secretary of State of that republic, and as the great-grandson of settlers who arrived in the new world from Spain – I stand here to testify to a debt that no lapse of time, no distance of space, can ever extinguish.

A Statement of Conscience on October 7
I will not start by saying ‘as a Muslim’ or ‘as an imam’, but as a human being.
On October 7, over 1,200 innocent people were killed in a single day. Families were shot in their homes. Young people out dancing were hunted across open fields. Over 250 people, including children and the elderly, were dragged into Gaza as hostages. I think of a mother hiding in a safe room with her baby’s mouth covered. I think of a father listening as the line went quiet. I think of families who waited month after month for someone to come home, only to receive a coffin. I didn’t need my faith to recognize the evil of what happened. My heart told me first.
But I’m a Muslim and an imam, and I owe the world one honest sentence: what was done that day was a crime against God. God teaches that whoever kills one innocent soul, it is as if he had killed all humanity.
This day has an author: Yahya Sinwar. He planned it, ordered it, and knew what would follow. Every death of that day and war he started rests on him and Hamas leaders who sat in tunnels and foreign hotels and called slaughter a victory. It rests on every Palestinian leader who cheered, excused, handed out sweets, or said nothing. They chose this. They own it.
But Sinwar did not invent himself. He was the fruit of a tree planted almost a century ago by the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas named itself in its founding charter as the Brotherhood’s branch in Palestine. The Brotherhood’s poison is slow. It arrives through study circles, youth camps, charity boxes, and kind words to lonely young men. Drop by drop, it teaches him that his religion is a political party, his neighbour is his enemy, the Jew is the cause of his sorrow, and God is pleased by rage. By the time the gun arrives, the soul is already taken.
I have seen this poison in mosques where sermons became rallies and young men could recite slogans but not sit still for a verse on mercy. Every people that let the Brotherhood in has paid in blood and ruined generations. It has never built anything it did not first set on fire.
Behind Hamas stands another hand: the IRGC. It was the IRGC’s money, weapons, and training that turned a hateful idea into an army. One calls itself Sunni and the other Shia, and they may curse each other’s creeds, but they are united in what they worship. It is not God. It is power. The same IRGC that armed the killers of October 7 shoots Iranian girls for showing their hair, hangs young men for asking to be free, and has left graves from Tehran to Damascus to Beirut. They speak in God’s name. So did Pharaoh speak in the name of heaven.
So let me say this clearly. Hamas and the IRGC are not merely enemies of Islam. That would be too small a charge, as if their crime were only against us. They are enemies of God. God is the Giver of life, yet they deal in death. God calls Himself the Most Merciful, yet they have made cruelty a sacrament. God honoured the children of Adam, yet they look at a child and see a target or a shield. To murder what God created and sign His name to it is the oldest blasphemy.
And we Muslims have been too quiet. Some of us were afraid. Some told ourselves it was not our business. Some, God forgive them, felt something other than horror that morning and never confessed it. Silence was the soil this poison grew in. I will not add to it.
So on this anniversary, let us say plainly what our scripture already says. The Jews are not our enemies. They are our cousins in Abraham, and their dead were created by the same God who created us. Today belongs to them: the murdered, the hostages, and families who still set a place at the table. To them I say: I am sorry for what was done to you by men who used the words of my prayers. You’re not alone in your grief or remembrance.
The enemies of God are those who murder in His name. We know their names. It is time we said them from our own pulpits, in our own voices, before they speak for us again.

I was literally just recording a video about this phenomenon of the fact that we seem to have crossed the threshold where quota is no longer the binding constraint, it is us.
We humans are now the binding constraint in terms of our ability to consume what we're producing and our ability to learn and understand. Our metabolic throughput and our energetic throughput and our temporal throughput is now the bottleneck, not the intelligence of the models and not our quotas.

just asked supergrok “does anyone think that Sinclair’s Cell paper on OSK in a PpoI exposed mouse demonstrated any substantive rejuvenation? if so, what tissue was regenerated and where is the backup copy of my genome?”
would everyone and @davidasinclair like to know the answer?
kLee retweeted
Almost no one who read the Cell paper carefully, rather than the press release, thinks it showed substantive functional rejuvenation of an aged or ICE-damaged tissue. The people who say it did are mostly recycling Sinclair’s framing. The published critique you and James Timmons put in Cell is still the accurate reading of that manuscript.
What that paper actually did with OSK
Yang et al., Cell 186:305–326 (2023): ICE mice get tamoxifen-inducible I-PpoI cuts; the claim is “faithful DSB repair” erodes the epigenome and ages the animal; OSK is then said to drive aging “backward.”
What OSK is shown to do in that paper:
• Shift transcriptomes of ICE cells / some tissues toward a more “youthful” pattern
• Move DNA-methylation clocks younger
• Reset some histone marks
What it does not show in that paper:
• Restoration of function of any organ in an ICE mouse
• Regeneration of a named tissue after I-PpoI
• A young vs old ICE mouse after OSK that can see, run, think, or filter better
Figure 7S is the tell: I-PpoI eyes go opaque. There is no functional characterization of OSK-treated ICE eyes. The graphical abstract (old mouse → young mouse) and the “reinstall the software” sentence are not supported by a functional endpoint in the ICE + OSK experiment. Sinclair’s reply pointed to clock/transcriptome reset and to other papers, not to a missing figure in this one.
So: no tissue was shown to be regenerated in the I-PpoI / ICE + OSK experiment. Muscle and kidney gene-expression / clock shifts are cited; that is not regeneration.
Who still talks as if it did
Sinclair’s group and the ITOA reviews treat clock + transcriptome reset as “age reversal.” HMS news said ICE organs “resumed a youthful state” and called OSK a “permanent reset.” That language is promotional, not a description of a rescued phenotype in ICE mice.
A different paper—Lu et al., Nature 2020—is the one with a real tissue phenotype: AAV-OSK in retinal ganglion cells after optic-nerve crush or glaucoma-like injury, with axon growth and optomotor recovery. That is injury repair in RGCs, not “I-PpoI mouse whole-body rejuvenation,” and it is not a demonstration that the genome stores a backup copy of youth. Mixing the two papers is how the Cell story got oversold.
Where is the backup copy of your genome?
There isn’t one.
The genome you have is the sequence in your cells. Sinclair’s “backup copy” is a metaphor for a hypothesized latent youthful epigenetic program that OSK can recall—Shannon observer / reinstall-software language—not a second, stored copy of your DNA. No locus, no extra chromosome, no archived methylome file has been identified. OSK are pioneer TFs that open chromatin and rewrite expression; that does not require, or prove, a stored youthful blueprint.
If I-PpoI is doing what Sinclair’s own earlier Developmental Cell work said it can do (cuts, cytotoxicity, cell loss in targeted tissues), then “resetting the epigenome of surviving cells” is not the same as proving that aging is reversible loss of epigenetic information with a recoverable backup. That was the core of the Matters Arising argument: the information theory of aging was not tested by this experiment, and the backup-copy claim was asserted without a functional restore in the ICE mouse.

Yesterday in the Security Council, I presented the facts as they are:
The Israeli security buffer zone in Syria represents 0.1% of Syrian territory. Turkey, on the other hand, occupies 5% of Syrian territory!
Time and again, who is blamed? Israel!
This is the UN's double standard.
