I run a privately funded NGO. We did some really amazing things a few months ago, but I was so busy learning the ropes of being a dad that I didn’t get the chance to share it with you.

This isn't a victory but special recognition to all the people that went out to protest, those that wrote emails to their MPs, visited them and used their platforms to advocate for fairness. The advocacy must continue.

Another unfair element about the ILR is 2 people can be doing the same job in an organisation but in different sites, one earns £48k living in Bristol the other £51k (london rate), the 51k settles faster and 48k spends 5 extra years just because they dont live in London

Forget banter, what's actually stopping the next government from saying no more permanent residency/ILR? What security do migrants even have? How are people supposed to plan their lives like this?

I defend care workers on this app and I have never worked in care. I honestly don’t like that some of them are doing the same thing we help them fight against.
If it was bad when those people did it, then it is also bad if the care workers are doing it now.

The people that we were fighting for about 24 hours ago have now become the ones doing the mocking.
This I-better-pass-my-neighbor behavior cannot take us anywhere o.
If you only understand consideration when you’re the victim, then you don’t deserve it.
True.

Just got off the phone from my friend who works for the NHS in project management. She would have qualified for ILR December next year. Now, that is no longer possible. She's absolutely gutted!😔😔
Please, check in on your people 🙏

IMO, the fairer thing would’ve been for everyone on COS before the May 2025 White Paper still do their 5 years.
It’s harsh for everyone who has contributed in the last 4/5 year.
You need to take your own advice lol.

Reading the full white paper on the New Immigration rule and i stopped reading on Page 21,
There is nothing to celebrate,
About 7 visas including Student and Post study CANNOT lead to ILR,
The ten years long residence route will be scrapped,
This is mind blowing.
There's word on dependant. Stays the same.
Thanks for the summary.
Care workers on the Health and Care visa, here is where you stand after this afternoon's settlement statement in the Commons.
If you joined before the Immigration White Paper of May 2025 and kept your visa conditions, including earning at least £25,000 a year in the sector, your five-year route to settlement stays.
If you fell short of those conditions, you can apply for another five-year care visa, no longer tied to your old employer. Hold a legitimate care job through it and you can apply for settlement again. The Home Secretary put this group at around a quarter of those who entered or switched into the route between 2022 and 2025.
Five years also stays open to anyone earning more than £50,000, and to doctors, nurses and teachers. Similar protection reaches some public sector health and education workers, auxiliary nurses among them.
Everyone else, including those earning under £50,000, moves to a ten-year path. An immigration breach pushes settlement back to twenty years.
Applicants will also need a clean criminal record, English to a high standard, no unpaid debt to the taxpayer and at least three years of National Insurance contributions. Miss one and you are disqualified.
There is no start date yet, and no word on dependants.
This story is still developing, and some details may change. What you have read here comes from Parliament's live subtitles, so the official parliamentary record may still correct the wording, and the written rules will fill in the rest.
