Pieces of Halley's Comet are going to burn up over most of the country before dawn Thursday.
If you're in the clear, step outside after the moon sets, around 3 to 4 AM, and look up. From a dark spot, 10 to 20 an hour.

Lol we are entering the phase where the anti-space people now have to accept we will be going to the Moon but shifted it to "le big city cant work"
Moments ago @CNN cited a study saying that very large settlements on the Moon would run out of water and that much smaller bases are more realistic #Artemis @NASAMoonbase

It's wild to think of how it must have felt to be the person who first saw this picture.
Imagine what wonders still await us!
For all of human history, people only saw the moon from Earth. On Aug. 23, 1966, a NASA probe flipped the view.
Lunar Orbiter 1 was mapping landing sites when it sent back an unplanned shot of Earth rising over the lunar horizon.
The Soviets had already photographed most of the far side with Luna 3 in 1959. But the pictures weren’t clear enough to help choose a safe landing zone on the moon.
On Aug. 30, 1963, NASA approved the Lunar Orbiter program.
On Aug. 10, 1966, in Cape Canaveral, the Atlas-Agena D rocket boosters launched Lunar Orbiter 1 into space.
During one of its 577 orbits, it sent back an image no one had expected to receive. It was on Aug. 23, 1966, that Lunar Orbiter 1 took an unplanned, yet iconic photograph. Since the dawn of mankind, humans had only ever seen the moon from Earth. This incidental and historic photo showed Earth from the perspective of the moon. For the first time, people now saw what the “Man in the Moon” saw.

My wife recently gathered up a nice collection of Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes.
We then halved them, added olive oil, mixed in herbs and spices, and turned them into a lovely bruschetta on sourdough toast!

I came across this dialogue in a story that struck me in my engineering soul:
"Duct tape never fails..."
"Unless it has to be used near any kind of heat source!"
"Heresy! Now listen here, you wet-behind-the-ears snotnosed idiot. You disrespect duct tape to my face again..."

Story time!
Once, there was a curious little girl who watched her mother preparing the Sunday roast. She wanted to know, "Mom, why do you cut the end off the roast before you cook it?"
Her mother replied, "Because that's how my mother cooked it when I was a little girl."
The little girl, having gotten her answer, goes to the next room where her grandmother is sitting and asks, "Grandma? Why did you cut the end off the Sunday roast before you cooked it?"
Her Grandmother replied, "Because that's how my mother cooked it when I was a little girl."
Now, this little girl, feeling a bit unsatisfied by what's she's been told twice now, decides she's going to go up to the top floor where her Great Grandmother lives to get one more answer.
So she climbs the stairs, and being a polite little girl who knows her manners, knocks on the door of her Great Grandmother. When she's told she can come in she stands there and asks,
"Great Grandma? I asked Mom why she always cuts off the end of the Sunday roast and she told me it was because that's how her mother did it when she was little.
Then I went to Grandma and asked her why she always cut off the end of the Sunday roast and she told me that it was because that's how YOU did it when she was a little girl.
Please, Great Grandma, can you tell me why you cut the end off of the Sunday roast?"
The little girl was shocked when the old woman in front of her started to laugh. She was laughing so hard that she was almost bent in half! Finally she looked up at the little girl and replied, "Oh, sweet one, that's easy to explain! The reason I would always cut off the end of the Sunday roast was because the pan I had to cook it in was too small to hold the roast!"
