Houdini users have been asking for native 3D object tracking for over a decade.
And it's finally here.
KeenTools, the team behind GeoTracker for Nuke, Blender, and AE, shipped a Houdini beta this week. And I was able to get my hands on it to test!🧵
Here is a quick motion test. I wanted to see what it would look like if I did a quick motion on the instances.
It's coming along.
Rendered quickly using Karma XPU at low resolution to just do this test, and it still came out great.
If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it...
Kind of slammed, but here is the latest iteration of the forest shot.
A few test renders.
Without atmosphere/cloud.
Rendered in Karma.
Likely last update for the night on the next phase of the project. I already have a working tree species from my tree generator.
What is cool is I have it set up to create multiple LODs simultaneously for various shots.
They are also able to be simmed. Right in Houdini, with simple HDAs. Ask me anything on this. Will continue sharing the progress on these assets.
Left is Wind Test. Right is Wind+Shockwave
Early layout test on the next shot. I’ve only gotten one tree variant done.
Just wanted to see if the framing works. So essentially pre-vis.
Coming along!
Modeled and laid out in Houdini/Solaris. Rendered in Karma XPU.
REALLY EARLY tests on new forest assets using a tree generator I am currently working on.
After this project I am going to have so many HDAs I'll need a new hard drive lol.
No really, I need a new hard drive...
Procedurally generated in Houdini, test renders in KARMA XPU.
Just uploaded some breakdown assets for the latest Volcanic Crater shot on the ArtStation. I will do videos on the channel soon breaking down various elements as well. Like how I pulled off the close up vent/fumaroles in the lava dome!
So Stay Tuned.

This.
Replying to @notch
do it! We need more creative leaders to step up and create the new centers of gravity necessary to pull in talent and create new things.
Low key, this has been my feeling recently. Haven’t said anything because I could be accused that I am in denial.
Comped the shot. Mostly just to align with the rest of the sequence, add haze, and bring it to finish.
Created and Rendered in Houdini with Karma, composited with NUKE.
Incredible work.
I had the pleasure of working with the best Houdini HDA for fabric and knitted assets. With a small team of super-talented people, we created this BB8 Fan Art.
Knitted BB-8 Finds a Lightsaber
A knitted BB-8 finds a lightsaber in the desert. Fan art by the CG Lounge community. The yarn is Fibric, curves in Houdini.
Just posted a new video on the channel!
Its a quick look at how I handled the numerous simulations in my latest crater FX shot in a quick and efficient manner by utilizing Houdini's PDG capabilities.
More deep dive breakdowns coming soon.

Knocked out a Raw Render motiontest last few nights. This is where the shot is at. Pretty happy with it. About 27 minutes per frame.
Completely done in Houdini, rendered in Karma CPU (needed to for volumes).
Loving this shot. Breakdown soon.
So now there’s discourse on the value of Credit vs Debit Cards? Lmao. I’m never uninstalling this app.
Never thought I’d see the financial illiteracy crisis hit this point…
Fired up a quick test render. Lava dome inside of the volcanic crater from the sequence of shots I have been working on.
KTT tools used in Houdini, with Claude Opus 5.5 dialing in the settings.
Rendered in Karma.
I should probably also tag Sam @samuel_krug since I am using his toolset heavily. If you want to learn more about KTT let me know. Would love to introduce you to this fantastic product for Terrains.
It's the only toolset I use now.
@hectorVFX @MattiaMerenda2 This is what I was saying earlier with how using an MCP server can help with even complex terrain choices.
The materials are completely procedural as well thanks to Copernicus. Houdini is on the cutting edge at the moment.
