who even does this?
3 things
1. traffic is Calgarians' top issue?
2. wut, saving money doesnt have an effect
3. 10 million isnt significant?
Replying to @calmNsenseChris @BarberraBarker @kim_tyers @RobWardCGY @Landonforward14 @MikeJamiesonYYC @DanWMcLean
Eliminating spending on both of these wouldn't have a significant effect on capital budgets. Over last 4 years we've spent about $10 million on pathways/bike lanes. Traffic injuries/fatalities are at an all-time high and was the top issue for Calgarians in the most recent survey.
NOW NOW NOW
why would councilors stop this necessary info that admin was already preparing?
why would any councilors want LESS info about budget
which members of council voted against more line by line budget info?
Replying to @KybrdWrrr @CalgaryRecall
Council hid it from me. Admin had already started prepping the documents in anticipation of the NOM. I guess they mistook the Mayor for what he keeps referring to as being more "transparent".

The hiring spree at city hall needs to be first on the list for scrutiny. Hundreds of positions. Millions of dollars. Adding layer upon layer to bureaucracy. End that now. #yyccc
we keep yelling from the rooftops there are criminal offences, every oil-gas company would have fired these people with cause long ago
none of this conduct is allowed in the real world
Replying to @CalgaryRecall
This is embezzlement, corruption and misappropriation in legal terms, especially when providing documents with the intentional goal to deceive. In commercial law this is a crime with severe consequences IF you get caught. Did we caught them enough yet?
hidden non core stuff in the water funding, game plan, calgary plan and everywhere
guaranteed
why else refuse to disclose?
BECAUSE a loan would have to pass an audit from the lender and guess what they would find?
go ahead, connect thos dots
Here’s the thing Mayor Farkas is not wrong in saying we have major infrastructure problems. Obviously replacing the fresh water line & simultaneously replacing a waste water line were priority 1 on the list but here’s what makes me go hmmm.
If these new pipelines will last 25-35 years with routine maintenance or longer, then why is the city raising water & waste water related taxes by 70% over just 4 years?
Wouldn’t it be more prudent to take the capital investment cost, the interest costs on any loan associated with the capital cost & the average maintenance costs over 25 years & then increase taxes at a more reasonable, easier to absorb annual amount over the next 25 years?
this too

exactly this, a bunch of non essentials are buried inside the budgets of the core services
tucked away
Replying to @RobWardCGY
Force them to unbundle their budget items. Often very necessary items are bundled with a bunch of wish items.
WTAF?
Replying to @Landonforward14
How 'bout that nice wind farm city taxpayers effectively bought for a major corporation, without knowing it?

Let’s all pretend you weren’t on council for over half that time.

Those responsible should face real accountability. I mean, assets seized, jail, everything.

is it like Hannukah, do we light a candle each day?
like xmas, excitedly open your new tax bill to face surprised disappointment?
like chinese new year, hand over packets of money to admin?
'Tis the Season fa la lala la
see all that density?
it's causing taxes to explode
pipes to explode
sewers to explode
population to explode
schools to explode
hospitals to explode
and so on and so on
Replying to @M_mce @Landonforward14
new communities reduce tax burden
developers pay for all infrastructure
overtaxing comes from the inner city development as inner city developers do not pay for the infrastructure, the taxpayers pay for it
see all that density? that is causing your taxes & fees to sky rocket
