#HaveALaugh as Dame Edna shocks the Brits.😂
Dame Edna, completely straight-faced, tells Parkinson that looking out at the San Francisco audience she saw all these “disoriented people” clinging to each other — same-sex couples — “doing funny things.” Then the kicker: “But they’re people… and who knows, they may get well.” The delivery is pure soft-focus housewife kindness. No raised eyebrow, no “I’m joking” signal. Just Edna being Edna while the room does that half-laugh, half-hold-breath thing. It’s the exact moment you remember why Barry Humphries could get away with almost anything: the character is so airtight that the most vicious line still sounds like something your aunt might mutter over tea. Today that clip would be screenshotted and ratioed before the credits. Then it just sat on BBC2 and people either roared or quietly decided they hadn’t quite heard it right.

That young man deserves so much appreciation! Instead of turning away or simply standing by and filming such a heartbreaking sight, he stepped in to help, giving a life that was slowly fading a chance to survive. 🦈💗

Until Labor pull this new mandatory Zionist demand of teaching/indoctrinating our children with Jewish Israeli propaganda in our SECULAR public education system, nothing you say or do is even acknowledged. Get Israel out of our government & away from our kids. Teach Australia’s Indigenous history/truth. Australia First. Not Israel First.

Zionism is racism. Zionism is a European, racist, supremacist, colonial political project with the explicitly stated goal of complete control of the whole of Palestine AND beyond. An engineered majority, refusing right of return of refugees and unlawful occupation is apartheid.

@AngusTaylorMP stop fucking lying. DJs has entered administration due to 10+ yrs of shit management. Your govt allowed it to be sold to South Africans, who then sold it to the same private equity company that bankrupted Dick Smith stores, Anchorage. It has nothing to do with Albo
With the news that David Jones has been placed into voluntary administration, first and foremost our thoughts are with the thousands of workers who face a difficult and uncertain time ahead. This news will also come as a shock to Australians right across the country. David Jones is the world's oldest continuously operating department store. Founded in 1838, it is older than the state of Victoria. Older than the Sydney Opera House. This iconic Australian business has survived two world wars, the Great Depression and countless economic crises. But after 188 years, it cannot find a way forward in Labor's economy. David Jones is now among the thousands of Australian businesses being pushed to the brink by rising costs, higher interest rates and an economy that is going backwards. It's not alone. What we’re seeing is an economy that’s crumbling under Labor. Across the country, businesses large and small are being forced to make tough decisions. Whether to reduce hours. Whether to cut jobs. Whether they can afford to keep going. Labor promised Australians a Future Made in Australia. Instead, we're seeing an Australia that is closing for business. More taxes. More regulation. More spending. Higher energy costs. And businesses being suffocated by a government that simply doesn't understand how jobs and prosperity are created. This is the economy Labor has built. You cannot have a strong economy without strong businesses. And you cannot protect Australian jobs while making it harder and more expensive to employ Australians. Australia needs a government that backs enterprise, rewards effort and restores confidence. That means lower taxes. Less red tape. Cheaper, more reliable energy. And an end to Labor's reckless spending that's driving up inflation. The Coalition will fight to rebuild an economy where businesses can invest, employ Australians and grow again. An economy that restores our standard of living and protects our way of life. Australia should be open for business, not closing its doors.

Captain @Captain_Chaos_X, worthy of a Quote Post. DAVID JONES - Let's dig below Angus Taylor's ass. ANGUS TAYLOR WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND. BUT HERE'S A QUESTION WORTH ASKING. How does an investment firm like Anchorage Capital Partners survive, and apparently prosper, when businesses it buys subsequently collapse? Well, Angus, welcome to the fascinating world of PRIVATE EQUITY. LET'S LOOK AT DICK SMITH ELECTRONICS (Hello Anchorage, owner of DAVID JONES). The numbers are quite extraordinary. According to an analysis by investment commentator Brian Gaynor, published following Dick Smith's collapse in 2016: ANCHORAGE'S DICK SMITH INVESTMENT: • Estimated equity invested: $23 MILLION • Cash received from the December 2013 ASX float: $358 MILLION • Cash received from selling its remaining shares in September 2014: $105 MILLION TOTAL CASH RECEIVED: $463 MILLION APPROXIMATE CASH PROFIT: $440 MILLION Yes. You read that correctly. An estimated $23 MILLION investment generated approximately $463 MILLION in cash proceeds. That's approximately 20 TIMES the original equity investment, before applicable fees, expenses and taxes. Not bad, eh, Angus? NOW, LET'S EXAMINE THE TIMELINE. NOVEMBER 2012: Anchorage acquires Dick Smith Electronics. DECEMBER 2013: Dick Smith floats on the Australian Securities Exchange. SEPTEMBER 2014: Anchorage sells its remaining 20% shareholding. JANUARY 2016: Dick Smith collapses into voluntary administration. Read those dates again. ANCHORAGE HAD EXITED ITS INVESTMENT APPROXIMATELY 16 MONTHS BEFORE DICK SMITH COLLAPSED. Shareholders subsequently suffered enormous financial losses. Creditors were left facing substantial losses. Thousands of employees lost their jobs. But Anchorage? ANCHORAGE HAD ALREADY CASHED OUT. And, according to Gaynor's analysis, realised an estimated $440 MILLION CASH PROFIT. Now, let's be absolutely clear. This is documented investment history, not an allegation of criminal conduct, tax avoidance or illegal asset stripping. But it illustrates something very important about private equity. THE FINANCIAL SUCCESS OF AN INVESTMENT FIRM DOES NOT NECESSARILY DEPEND ON THE LONG-TERM SURVIVAL OF THE BUSINESS IT ACQUIRES. The investment firm can make an extraordinary return, exit the business, and leave subsequent shareholders exposed to whatever happens next. And here's where the story becomes particularly interesting. GUESS WHO ACQUIRED DAVID JONES IN 2023? ANCHORAGE CAPITAL PARTNERS. The same investment firm. Different business. Different transaction. Different financial circumstances. And importantly, there is currently no established evidence that Anchorage made a comparable profit from David Jones. But surely that raises some legitimate questions worth examining. How much money did Anchorage actually invest in David Jones? How much, if anything, did it recover through fees, distributions, asset transactions or repayments? And who will ultimately carry the financial losses? These are questions about corporate finance, ownership structures and the allocation of financial risk. Actual economic questions. Not the intellectually lazy political fairy tale that a 188-year-old retailer, struggling for well over a decade, suddenly collapsed because Anthony Albanese became Prime Minister in 2022. ANGUS, THERE'S A WHOLE WORLD OF CORPORATE FINANCE OUT THERE. And remarkably, it existed long before the 2022 federal election. NOTE: Anchorage floated Dick Smith, pulled in a huge bag of money, exited and then, within the blink of an eye, the business collapsed. Investors lose millions; Anchorage eats caviar. @AngusTaylorMP / @SenatorBlyth For your EDUCATION Ref: DAVID JONES - Angus Taylor 1 teapawt.net/TheNoisyTrunk/status/2… DAVID JONES - Angus Taylor 2 teapawt.net/TheNoisyTrunk/status/2… PAULINE HANSON - DAVID JONES - HYSTERICAL teapawt.net/TheNoisyTrunk/status/2…

Excellent breakdown, I was just doing some in depth reading on the topic; Woolworths Holdings Limited purchase, then asset strip (real estate), the sale to Anchorage. Not sure how Anchorage get their flesh, but pretty sure they do somehow, and they'd be taking it, not earning it.

I'VE GOT THRUSH - It's Albo's fault. (Free image of Dick Smith's DICKEAHD MATCHES for Pauline Hanson included in this post) DAVID JONES: A COLLAPSE YEARS IN THE MAKING It's genuinely sad to see an Australian retail icon with 188 years of history enter administration, with thousands of jobs potentially at risk. But almost inevitably, Pauline Hanson has seized upon the news to blame the Albanese Labor government and Jim Chalmers. Apparently, we're back to the "I've got thrush, it's Albo's fault" style of political commentary. Never mind the facts. Never mind the history. Never mind that David Jones has been struggling for the better part of TWO DECADES. Just blame Labor. NOW, LET'S INTRODUCE SOME ACTUAL FACTS. David Jones' decline has been years in the making. This was a company that struggled to keep pace with changing consumer behaviour, particularly the transformation of retail shopping. The warning signs were apparent by 2010–2011, and by 2018 its financial deterioration was unmistakable. So today's announcement that David Jones has entered voluntary administration should surprise absolutely nobody who has followed the business over the past decade or more. OF PARTICULAR INTEREST IS ITS OWNERSHIP HISTORY. Anchorage Capital Partners, an Australian private equity firm, acquired David Jones in March 2023 from South Africa's Woolworths Holdings. Anchorage remained its owner when the company entered administration today, 5 November 2026. And here's an interesting coincidence. Anchorage Capital Partners also previously owned Dick Smith Electronics. Anchorage bought Dick Smith in 2012 and floated it on the stock market in December 2013. Dick Smith subsequently collapsed into administration in January 2016. And here's a little-known connection: Dick Smith actually operated the electronics departments inside David Jones stores, under an arrangement that began in October 2013. Different businesses, different circumstances, but a rather interesting common denominator. NOW, A LITTLE DAVID JONES HISTORY: 2008–2011: Online shopping was increasingly challenging traditional department stores. David Jones faced growing competition, pressure on margins and changing consumer expectations. 2012–2014: Structural problems were already evident. South Africa's Woolworths Holdings acquired David Jones in 2014 for approximately $2.1 BILLION. 2017: Comparable-store sales fell 0.7%. Aggressive discounting and disappointing private-label performance damaged profitability. 2018–2019: Woolworths Holdings recorded substantial impairments against the value of its David Jones investment, exceeding $1 billion across this period. 2020–2022: COVID accelerated the shift towards online retailing, further exposing the weaknesses of the traditional department-store business model. 2023: Anchorage Capital acquired David Jones for approximately $100 MILLION, a fraction of what Woolworths had paid nine years earlier. 2023–2024: David Jones recorded a $74.1 MILLION pre-tax loss. 2024–2025: Another $95.5 MILLION pre-tax loss. 5 NOVEMBER 2026: David Jones entered voluntary administration and receivership after negotiations with major landlords broke down. And there you have it. A company acquired for $2.1 BILLION in 2014, sold for approximately $100 MILLION in 2023, and placed into administration just three years later. This didn't happen overnight. Nor can it reasonably be attributed simply to recent interest-rate increases, inflation or weak consumer spending. Those pressures contributed, but the underlying problems had been developing for well over a decade. David Jones had an established brand, a prestigious history and extraordinary name recognition. What it failed to maintain was a sufficiently competitive and financially sustainable business model in a rapidly changing retail market. And once again, the private equity ownership of a major Australian retail institution deserves some examination. Not least because we've seen the name Anchorage Capital Partners appear in another spectacular Australian retail failure. Remember Dick Smith? So before we start blaming Jim Chalmers and Anthony Albanese for a retail decline that was already well underway while John Howard, Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison occupied the prime ministership, perhaps we could examine the actual corporate history. The financial deterioration, failed strategies, ownership decisions, expensive leases and inability to adapt to changing retail conditions are all part of that history. And those decisions deserve scrutiny. David Jones didn't suddenly develop financial problems when Labor won government in May 2022. The evidence of serious difficulties was already there, years before Albanese became Prime Minister. You can blame a government for its policies. You can debate the economic pressures facing retailers. But if you're going to attribute the collapse of a 188-year-old business to the current government, you really ought to explain the preceding decade and a half. History, Pauline. It's rather inconvenient when it comes with dates. Strike a pose.
