Hot take: nobody “develops” players. Players develop players. Coaches and programs give them the tools and the knowledge (like a facility, weightroom, coaching, practices, games) but nobody can develop a player. The player has to develop the player.

I once had a conversation with the late Michael Romero that I'll never forget. He raised 4 kids. 3 of them became first-round picks, MLB Draft or pro softball (unheard of) So, I asked him how he raised athletes, I knew his answer would be incredibly valuable:

Coach…Mom & Dad… Little brutal honesty here… Step back and take a hard look. It just might be YOUR body language, the tone of YOUR voice, how YOU react, that is keeping them in this perpetual state of fear of failure, anxiety of what others are saying and being more concerned with who is watching than what they are trying to accomplish. YOU might be part of their weaknesses without even knowing. Just as we want them to be great at self evaluating, we (the adults) need to be even better at it.

“I looked for 1 pitch every at bat, fastball right down the middle, that’s it.” @derekjeter This was my approach as well. Look fastball and adjust to the off speed. I think many of today’s @MLB hitters are guessing more frequently and trying to do damage because that’s what the analytics guys are wanting them to do. IMO this is the main reason for the low batting averages and high strikeout numbers. Hopefully at some point they get back to focusing on putting the ball in play and stop swinging for the fences. #shegone @notgaetti @BobFile @twuench @billdubs @SliderDominate @ROXSystem @BLocsports @VictorRojas @RVGDag @AMBS_Kernan @SalMarinello @TheRealJHair @DMEASrecruiting @mikepiazza31 @WillClark22 @GDBJr5 @JayGibbons15 @RealCJ10 @JLucroy20
